Now I know that Peter Fitness and others down there in Aus have not stopped laughing yet, but after a day in which the British Governments cabinet became made up of more non elected people than elected, making a mockery of the word, democracy, English Cricket really did die.
Beaten by a team that only has 6 grass pitches in it’s country and sports 6000 mainly amateur players, the might of England were humled by the Dutch (or is it Netherlands….I never know the difference!!). The Dutch were magnificent, played like their lives depended on it, a credit to their country and their flag. England on the otherhad were woeful. There should be a shirt burning ceremony this morning at Lords, followed by a Memorial Service for a game that has truely and finally died………………………….

Barry, I didn’t see your post earlier, but I’m not laughing…….honest
Australia got beaten, too, but it’s only 20-20, not REAL cricket, and now our boys can concentrate on the ASHES
                Bring it on.

Now that I am really looking forward to. Reckon your lot are favourites, but you never can tell. Modelling will have to take a back seat for that.

I’ll start , by saying there’s no truth in the rumour that we’re bringing back Boycott and Botham to give your lads  a chance.

Botham would be good, I used to love watching him play, but NOT Boycott – he was far too boring.

I can take it, Neil, I’ve got broad shoulders, and a thick skin (to say nothing of my head ). I’m not too cocky this time, either, I reckon the teams are fairly even, although it would be a blow for England if Pietersen doesn’t play. It should be a good series.
                          Peter.

It’s that game where you all go in until you all get out, then the other team go in, until they get out, and you try and bowl a maiden over ………..well, you get the idea

You guys “down under” do have an exciting life, going in until you go out and bowling maidens over…..I haven’t done anything like that since my rugby club days and all we did was tip cows over as our maidens would thump us if we tried it on them.

I presume the “Ashes” is a reference to the Aussie love of BBQs.

Paul, I’m shocked that you, an Englishman says “Ashes???”. What’s the world coming to
It’s the age old battle between right and wrong (where the English are always wrong ), the eternal battle between parent and child, where the brash youngster overcomes his elderly parent, the triumph of good over evil…..I think I’m getting a bit carried away here.
Anyway, it’s all played out on the hallowed turf of Lord’s, The Oval, Edgbaston, Headingly, and Swalec Stadium ?????? in Cardiff (that’s a new one to me, whatever happened to Old Trafford?), as well as the Melbourne and Sydney  Cricket grounds, Adelaide Oval, The WACA in Perth, and the famous Gabba in Brisbane.
It’s not a matter of life and death, however, it’s far more serious than that , as Neil said, it’s WAR………let the battle commence.
I think I’d better have a lie down now, I’m mentally exhausted
                                    Peter.

                                       Neil,
So sorry, but was trying to avoid firing the first broadside…….
Ah well lets get on with it the….War is declared…….at least until August..
As for that Swalec Stadium, we have to be politically correct these days and have a test match in Wales. Old Trafford, where I spent many happy days as a youngster, is simply not up to the job at the moment. It has been allowed to deteriorate considerably, but is now having a complete refit….

Yes, Andy, the England ladies team has won the 20 / 20 World Cup, not quite the equivalent of the Ashes, but very impressive, nevertheless.

Barry, seeing as we are being so politically correct, if a Test is being played in Wales, how come there isn’t one in Scotland? I thought the much loved Gordon Brown would have insisted on having one up there . Perhaps the Welsh have more political clout, after all, the FA Cup Final was played in Cardiff while the new Wembley Stadium was being built.

As for the ENGLISH FA cup final being played in Wales, there was almost a revolution about it.

A very good question ??? i suppose they play cricket in scotland as i know even the irish ,supprisingly, have a cricket team .But i have watched cricket off and on from a child and i personaly belive that the game has gone down hill with beer swilling yobs in the stands and even pitch invasions !!! Come on this is a gentlemans game no some fotball match.
Cricket seems to be popular down here in cardiff as i live in an area with a high asain population and the kids are out in the small park over the road having a great time ,so could one of these kids be the next cricket star ??

Andy, the Irish did remarkably well in the 20/20 World Cup, surprising a number of more fancied teams.

I once went on a cricket tour of Scotland, finishing off at Leith in Edinburgh. The cricket they played was not up to much. We never lost a game (although every player in our team was either a pro or ex pro). That said, the Scots make the very best hosts and they kept drinking us under the table!!!1Happy days!!
