The leaving of Liverpool

The Cunard liner Queen Victoria was visiting the home of Cunard to commemorate the centenary of the first voyage of the RMS Aquitania on the 30th May 1914 . Liverpool is fast becoming a destination and embarkation port for liners and cruise ships.

How does this extremely high ship withstand a strong wind?

It also looks dangerously top heavy!

I understand they have stabilisers which move as the ship rolls/pitches, and which seem to work very well.

We, Mrs F and !, have been on her sister QE twice, including once across the Bay of Biscay when we were accompanied part of the way by a Sandown class minesweeper that looked to be extremely uncomfortable as it was pitching and rolling like anything.

QE on the other hand just had a very slow gentle roll and no obvious pitching. OTOH, on the top deck the wind was horrendous. – The promenade deck (where the lifeboats are) was closed off on that day. You could hold a drink or cup of tea, no problem.

We just pulled away from the Sandown class minesweeper as we ran up to the English channel.
