Subscription ‘Pop-up’

For the last couple of days, every time I've logged onto this forum I've had a screen pop-up inviting me to buy three copies of MB for £1 if I subscribe.
I already do.
How much longer is this irritating pop-up to continue, or is there some way I can disable it?

Again, for me just now, no pop-up, but that may be a quirk of my system.

Anyway, Kate will no doubt respond as soon as is practicable – the email has not bounced back.

And what colour tablets are you on, Paul?

This is very much like watching ITV3, where the advertising breaks happen with alarming frequency and show the same mind-numbing adverts every time. Because of that I am now firmly resolved never to purchase any Dove products or bank with Barclays.

To whoever at MTM decided this pop-up was a good idea, it wasn't. You can't please all the people all of the time, that's true – but you can hack enough of them off to make the whole exercise counter-productive. Now go and undo whatever it was you did, please (and a fourteen quid discount on my my next subs would be very much appreciated, too!).

And here is the text of an email just received from Kate Hall at 15.35pm:

 

'it is only supposed to pop up once, and it is supposed to leave a cookie that stops it from popping up again if you have closed it.

 

I have emailed our resident tech person to see if she can assist.

 

If you particularly dislike these sorts of adverts from all websites you may like to download AdBlock (**LINK**) – this stops all pop-ups and video ads from showing unless you allow them.

 

Thank you for advising us of the problem, we’ll get it sorted asap.'

AdBlock Plus is already installed and supposedly working; I get no other pop-ups anywhere so I must assume it is. I've reported this nasty little gremlin to their helpline.
The 3-for-£1 Pop-up occurred again when I accessed this page this time. I'm sort-of glad it isn't just me but I'm pretty hacked-off that it's happened at all. I'll be looking for a year's free subscription at least!

It's getting on my nerves as well, every time I come back to the site up it pops!!

I have Adblock installed but it doesn't stop it at all.

As to cookies, I refuse to have them on my system for any longer than the session I am online and have them all removed when I close down at the end of the day.

According to the system tools on my Firefox browser the Model Boats web site has already left 10 cookies on my system today !!!! Still the damm thing keeps appearing !!!

I have been getting it on both Pc and phone, on the phone it pops up every time I change a page.. Wish Teckies would leave things that work alone…

I’ve been holding back on adding my moan, but this is getting ridiculous. It started as an iritation, but this evening when it poped up, my admitedly old tablet froze. I had to do a restart. It then happened twice more. I’m sick of it. This is a forum, we know we can subscribe to the magazine, we are not stupid.
I hope it’s sorted out soon, ‘cos I’m not buying a new tablet to stop the forum freezing.
Yes, I’m pxxxxd off, I’ve been readin MB since it was model maker, now the idiots seem to be in charge of promotion.

Hello all

 

This is the text of an answer from Kate Hall received today:

 

'I have had an answer from our tech person and it seems that it may be creeping through to machines due to high cookie settings stopping the cookie from working.

 

In light of the complaints and technical issues I have requested for this pop-up to be removed.'

 

Please bear in mind that all the website updates and changes are often done in one go at a given time, so it may not be until overnight Wed/Thurs that this annoying pop-up disappears.

 

We will wait and see what happens by Thursday. I have to say that it only appeared once for me, but I am on an Apple Mac and that may have something to do with it.

I too had Kate's E-Mail and while I didn't understand it I thought I'd give it a try. Came over to MB > no pop-up. Logged In > still no pop-up.

Fingers crossed.

I shall look forward to the (much-advertised) £14 discount next time I renew my subscription…………………then I shall check the sky for flying pigs.

If the pop up has been removed what will you old codgers have to moan and complain about?

Perhaps we should have a thread specifically for you lot to jump up and down about…..after all there are so many subjects that have the potential to exorcise your need to complain The Weather, The Government, The price of tea.

The subject could be changed on a daily basis which would give you all something to look forward to apart from getting the best position at the looking window, countdown and Horlicks.

There's a specialist website for that. It's called Brassed-Off Britannia and its members – of whom only about ten seem to be active – are the most ill-assorted bunch of grumpy old windbags you ever came across. They are insuperably arrogant, self-absorbed, self-important, pompous, rude, bigoted, intolerant, politically extreme (both ends) and thoroughly entertaining. Treat yourself to a good laugh – but don't even think of joining in, whatever you do! These grumpy old gits BITE!

I'm trying to think which of W S Gilbert's characters came out with the line "Wouldn't your life be extremely flat with nothing whatever to grumble at?"

Facebook seems to be the current whinger's cause célèbre on Model Boat Mayhem. All jolly good fun!

My son says I’m not grumpy, I just have issues with anything that annoys me. He just wishes it wasn’t everything I see and hear!!!
