Hello, I wonder if anyone can help.

I am currently conserving a ship model and part of the treatment proposal is to build a stand for the ship. My problem is that I cant figure out how to take the profile from either side of the hull in order to ensure that the ship fits snugly on the stand. Does anyone have any tips on how I can do this? Thanks.

One of these (or similar) will do the job of tracing the hull shape. Transfer to a card template; adjust the shape of that until it's a good match then use it to cut out the frames of the stand. If you use MDF for the stand then be sure to give it at least four coats of polyurethane varnish.
