I hope it is better than the other recent marine orientated documentaries which have been aired recently and which have been quite disappointing.

            Hi Colin

Yes I agree, that theory by Maloney about a fire on board Titanic being a direct cause of the sinking is ridiculous, whilst I accept that there could well have been a coal bunker fire his conclusion about catastrophic damage to a bulkhead is completely wrong.

              Paul,

Yes, everything is dumbed down these days and conspiracy theories abound!

When you have the authorative books on your shelf you can see how badly researched and shallow some of these programmes are.

Anyway, I shall watch in hope tonight!

HMS Great Britain and Great Eastern are always of interest

I think that this kind of glory seeking sensationalism shows great disrespect not only to those who designed and built the ship but also all the people that perished on that cold night.

The basic claim of the program was fudged as their findings were based upon how mild steel reacts under heat whereas the ship was constructed from cast iron which has totally different properties.

I am always open to speculation providing that those making the claims can substantiate their theories with basic and provable facts.

                  Captain Bob

This should be right up your street and I look forward to reading your assessment tomorrow.

Watched most of the programme last night, before I nodded off!

The Ship is beautifully restored……Back to almost " as new" in fact!

We first saw Great Britain in about 1984, when it was part way through it`s restoration

With plenty of "As Found" condition to look in awe at, I hope that there are still some unrestored areas,

What a pity, we didn`t save The Great Eastern?

Yes it was an interesting show with lots of factual information, Rob Bell has one of those voices that are easy to listen to.

                        Bob

Its odd but every incarnation of Great Eastern seems doomed to be broken up, perhaps they are just to big for people to keep.

                          Hi Guys

I still run my 200/1 model of the Great Eastern at least once a week the only change I have made is to replace to motor driving the prop to a bigger and faster one, the 3D printed paddle wheels are made to scale and can only just drive the model along but look good spinning around.

                          Cheers,

                          Hutch.

How to up load photos.Gareth Jones was kind enough to put a "how to" on the forum but I cannot find it.

I have lots of photos of my Ariel China Tea Clipper build as well that I would like to up load.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you Bob and all my forum friends.

                                  Hi Hutch,

Here are the photo posting instructions, cut and pasted from the original.

First of all, any pictures you want to post need to be in a format no bigger than 800 x 600 pixels. I use Microsoft Office Picture Manager to reduce the picture size down from whatever the camera takes, to this size. My ancient desktop is still running Vista as an operating system so there may well be other options to use now. I usually save the reformatted pictures on my desktop where i can easily find them.

Log on to the forum as though you were going to add a post to one of the topics.

From the bar across the top of the page click on the Albums tab.

From the options that appear click on Create a photo album

Give the album a name and description

If you want the rest of the world to have access to the album tick the Public box, I think this is usually the default setting.

If you want other people to be able to upload photos to your album tick the Allow member uploads box ( I usually do not allow this)

Finally, for this stage, click on the Create album box.

You now can upload pictures into this album, firstly by clicking on Chose file. This will open your computer files and you need to find the first photo you want to upload. When you have found that file, click on Open and it will appear in the list. Repeat this process for up to 5 photos.

When you have selected your photos select Upload and they will appear on the page. When they have uploaded click on Save changes at the bottom of the list and they will all be there, accessible to anyone from the Albums tab on the top of the normal forum page.

If you want to include one of these photos in your post on the forum, type in any text normally. Then I usually leave one blank line and set the curser to the left hand edge of the page.

In the box above where you type in the text there is a camera icon. Click on that and a new box will appear which lists all your albums.

Click on the appropriate album and the list of all the photos in it will appear.

Click on the one you want and the picture itself will appear on the right of the box.

If that is the correct one, click on OK and it will appear in the right position in your post.

Put in another blank line and then start typing the next bit of text or add another photo.

Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year,

                                  Gareth

                                    Memo to CVB:

This subject comes up time after time. I reckon Gareth's "How To" posting above is very comprehensive and merits some sort of highlighting on this website. Some forum software allows a subject to become "sticky" in that it will always be at the top of a particular board. While this one doesn't have that facility, you might provide a link to it from the "Forums" box on the RH column or include it as an article in the Hints, Tips and Technical board under "Features". There are probablt several other ways in which it might be incorporated but resorting to 'searching' for the subject doesn't seem adequate.
