      Hi chaps!

The writing is beginning to appear on the wall!……Regretably

I bought part four last week…..and this week, all the part fives have been and gone back to the depot!

Only got part six in stock now! Wouldn`t you think W H Smith`s could have more leeway and have some sort of overlap?………Don`t fancy placing a standing yet

      Most frustrating………Bob

Try asking your local newsagent to get it in for you then it will always be available and unlike a subscription you can cancel it when you get fed up.

          Hi Paul

We haven`t got a reliable local newsagent, that`s the problem

Ashton is the nearest Smith`s and it`s three quid to park!

I`ll just have to bite the bullet and order them from Smiths and face the delays

Don`t really feel like packing it in yet…..Bob

Went to Smith`s today and it`s about turn chaps!…..Got part five after all!

Didn`t take long to add a single piece of keel and one former………. Noticed that the presentation of the last two issues are very poor compared to the earlier issues. Suppose they think that if you`ve reached issue five……Your hooked!

Don`t you bank on it…….Matey Boy!

The assembly jig is nice to tinker with…….bOB

              Am I missing something here?

Just look at this method of payment!

Just fill in your card number….Security code ……expiry date……and your signature…..And pop it in the post and hope nobody sees it on the way!

Bob. My money is NOT getting all the bits for the hull before recieving the masts and wotnot!!

I like the plastic set square things on your jig..where did you get them??

Don`t understand your post about getting the hull bits before the masts etc….I only want the hull

The angle brackets came with the plastic base sheet and hank nuts

I bought it many years ago for building aircraft fuselages, they probably still sell them somewhere on the net

Two more formers added…..20 and 21

At the moment, Smith`s have no record of me ordering the long lost issue two, even though I`ve paid for it and have a reciept!………..Such is life

                    formers 20 and 21.jpg

The clamps at the top of the angle brackets make a nice locking action on the keel

Issue 7 completes the keel making the hull length of 26"

Looking forward to next weeks goodie bag!

This week`s issue is the Jolly Boat or Ship`s Launch

The package comes with a building jig……..Nice idea……

In which the formers are glued into and will be cut off on completion, no doubt?

The build is on the new Eureka Moment…."Eye level work rest" …..Which makes life a lot easier!

All the formers are in place now…….More parts coming next week

It seems a great pity that the keel is not let into the formers?

The hull is clinker built and may require some steaming of the planks to get round those tight bends?………I`ve never had much success with steaming…..so we may not need a Jolly boat!

Back on the Jolly boat once again……..Planking with 0.6 x 3mm stripwood

Had to resort to the magnifying glass………Next Eureka moment will be a versatile mount for same!

Note the precise manner, the clamped pointed stick in holding the plank end in position…..Much better than a pin

PVA glue was applied with a brush and the surplus brushed away later

                                So far, so good………Bob

I`ve used the pointed stick idea, many times, it`s as good as saying…….."Hold that with your finger, please"

The advantage is that the clamp is well clear of the working area

For the next pair of planks, I will raise the pointer up and cut a vee shape in the flat point, to hold both planks equally

I`ve ordered it again direct from the suppliers…….What`s £5.99 anyway?

The thing that worries me about these part works is the companies have been known to pull the plug and stop publishing if the series is not selling very well leaving people with half built models etc.

                                                  Hello Dave

It doesn`t happen very often, but it did happen to me a few years ago

I subscribed to an IC motor bike kit but after about three issues, it was abandoned!

Luckily, I got a full refund

I am thoroughly enjoying the build up to now and always look forward to the next week`s lucky bag!

With lucky bag number 12, we get a few lovely little planks and a bag `o nails

Having missed buying issue 2……..I was surprised to find that Issue 3 was a continuation of the keel, so I was able to proceed with construction

Issue 12 is the start of the planking, and still issue 2 is not involved!

Issue 2 is nowhere in sight!……. after a waiting time of NINE WEEKS!……….There`s a lesson to be learned here………..Don`t order anything from Smiths!

                                                      first plank.jpg

The nails are used to nail the deck to the ribs!…..After they were glued in last week!……..Crackers!

                                                      All good fun, chaps……Bob
