I remember pulling a T1154 to pieces in 1959. Awful difficult to get into it!
I was never a UK radio amateur, because they would not give me a license on the strength of my 1st Class PMG that they issued
Eventually, I purchased one for £5 on the island of St. Helena, South Atlantic Ocean. And became ZD7RW/MM Maritime Mobile from passenger liner RMS St. Helena, on which I was the radio officer.
It was CW only on 14,060 using a small Howes kit that had about four transistors in it. Furthest I got was 6,000 miles! Soon lost interest though!
Here is a variable capacitor that I made myself. It turned out at exactly 0 – 300pF. I have never been much of a scholar, so I didn't try and pre-determine the value. I just guessed the size of the plates and that is what it came out as!"
