      Good morning my M8

The little `un is at the back and the big `un is in the foreground!………………You should have gone to SpecsaVers?………….eh?…………Boom!….Boom!

Let`s have no cheek from you…….M8Y Boy!

Having great fun building this little model…………..I`ve shut my eye`s to the fact that it`s really an embarassing monster…………….I can now only see a super TFC varnished hull, with bright red stripes…..Bob`s patent revitted rudder etc……..roaring engine sound…….more glossy red paint!……..I like red paint!………etc…..etc

Going to need a 12″ driver shortly

Roaring engine sound??? the best sound system is a real petrol engine (you also get real exhaust smoke )

Fit a real engine and sail it on a lake that takes “real” models.

Putting in an IC unit would be a suitable challange for an engineer rather than all of this simple electric stuff…..just shut your eyes and imagine the gleaming engine with all of the one off machined parts and the smell of hot metal after its first 30mph run.

Come on Bob you only live once and this model is crying out for a decent power unit.

          Get behind me ….SATAN!

Sounds very tempting!………………But, there ain`t no lakes within spittin` distance round `ere!

I`ll keep my options open at the moment……………Hmmmmm………I know where there are a couple of motors………doing nowt!

Plenty of time before I need to decide anyway………………Now back to work!
I`m hoping there may be an S M S at Birchwood show…….the cockpit area is rather vague at the moment

What about this then?……….Full frontal before she gets dressed!

Will be quite embarrassing, taking this to Etherow for the first time!…………Red Bob

Why embarrassing?? I understand that you might not like sailing such a small model but it is still a super subject.

Paul, as you have found an I.C lake, does this mean that you will finally be fitting the mahogany wotsit with a monster v8 or is it still electric???   Ashley

                    Hi Ashley

I am happily refitting the 32cc engine and building a condensing exhaust system that will remove all of the heat and oily residue from the exhaust gases.

The big question is do I fit a kitchen rudder or build a gearbox to enable the model to reverse?

Regarding the lake I have emailed the resident clubs secretary as a courtesy measure to inform them of my intentions to sail a model with IC power but I don’t think they are too impressed.

                      Hello Paul

Don`t fancy your chance`s with the lake proposal Sunshine!…………..unless you take an armed guard!

There`s always the canals to consider?…….and there`s plenty of them too.

What about Ellesmere Port boat museum waters, where the big boats are berthed, or the canal basin……..that would be nice?

                        Hello Bob

If the lake owners are happy for Paul to sail his petrol powered model on their water then the resident club can’t object, after all it is a matter of personal freedom.
I applaud Paul’s stance in not revealing the location of this mystical lake but I have to say that if it were me I would be shouting it from the rooftops so that everyone in the area who wished to sail petrol powered models could do so.

Freedom of choice and freedom of speech is, after all the fundamental basis of our society.

I would like to point out the proviso that you seem to have ommitted Dr John. That freedom is only there if it is not at the exspense of the freedom of others! Now that opens a can of worms and totally complicates the issue.

This SLOMOSHUN seems to have rivetted construction and a thinned fin

                                Note the support wire.

I might go for this rivetted feature ……as the veneer method with 40 coats of varnish, may be too heavy?………….Besides……I like rivets!………Bob

its all looking very good Bob. That boat in the pic seems to be missing the engine cover too perhaps it was an attempt to lighten the design hence a riveted ali fin and stay wire

I`ve been looking at that very attractive engine……..a dummy engine may look more aggressive than a shiney red cowl? It`s worth a thought!

Still got the assmbly spine in position for ease of handling
Will be taking the model to Birchwood tomorrow, if anybody is interested……Just hope there`s a little vacant spot……….I mean………Large vacant spot

now thats starting to look like a proper job Bob. Honiton hill steam rally went well today despite the fog that lasted till 4 O’clock, the model tent got very busy at times and it was incredibly satisfying to get so many compliments on my models. One small problem I gave the camera to my 11yr old grandson with instructions to photograph every thing and got none of the other 2 boat displays including a very old but beatifull victorian steam launch. ah well at least he photo’d my display lol. if you fancy a quick gander at a budding david bailey’s work click here and use password “philsphotos”
