Here`s the completed chassis, very light, dry jointed construction and held together with clamps and lacky bands.

Going to have to apply the super glue, externally…….Don`t fancy stripping it down

          Thank you Paul

The slow glueing process has started now  and is very interesting………………but I`m getting an uneasy feeling that a unwelcome monster is being created!

Might call it Frankin Stein……………Phyllis`s brother?

At the moment, it`s cost nothing…….. all made from surplus wood, the moment of truth will come when it needs a cash injection!

Why do you think it might be an unwelcome monster?
The build is going well and the finished model will be of your usual high standard, even without any rivets.
Finding the right motor/prop combo will be a challange worthy of your engineering skills as will keeping the model lightweight but strong.

Would you feel better if it had a paddle wheel instead of a prop?

You`ve given me some encouragement there Paul……………..and an idea!

Why not card and rivet construction?………………..Hmmmmmmm?

Would look quite novel. …….more like an aeroplane appearance……..a P47?

Plenty of time yet……………….model building in summer is totally different than winter builds……too many trips out………BBQ`s……..the endless gardening…etc…………….but it`s great for glue drying time!

Just off the subject…dont talk about gardening……….the way the weather is going I am soon going to need a combine harvester to cut my lawns.

Work in progress…………It took five days to get the chassis finally adjusted and glued, due mainly to the damp weather.
Now cutting the planks, which are 4mm x 20 mm section Liteply.
The problem at the mo, is sorting out the front side pieces, can`t be sure the former ends are correct yet?

Finally sorted out the side walls………………….Luckily, the natural bend of the plywood just matched the former ends………………I couldn`t believe my luck!

                      This a real OTT model!

It`s just something to build…….it`s really big and it`s a sort of challenge!

Don`t understand why you couldn`t find this thread?

Very Impressive Bob I’m not so sure about the suitability of the motors I’ve sugested now. just how big is she and have you any Idea of the empty hulls finall weight yet. Just  one word of warning on the Idea of using solafilm covering. if you use it make sure you seal the wood under neath 1st as if not just have a look at the photos of my 1st airboat the wrinkles are the result of water ingress into the untreated balsa under the solafilm  I should’ve known better

                          Hello Phil

You`ve got me worried now!…………………I`m again thinking I`m creating the unwelcome monster, as mentioned earlier!

Since it`s costing next to nothing to make at the Mo, I`ll carry on a bit further………….It`ll be more apparent after the planking!

Not a monster Bob…..it could be your best build yet and a very impressive model on the lake (if the lake is still there by the time you finish it….)

I thought you were building a larger version before you built the kit………I was expecting to see a big model, can’t understand why you are worried about finding an engine for it as one of Ashleys rubber bands would do the job

Bob, this is why Paul fiddles around with alternative stuff. Big boats are jolly expensive! You can get away with some of it, but props and ESC cost.  Ashley

Started the planking using strips of 3/4″ x 3mm liteply………Easy enjoyable work at the moment!
Note clamps holding seams in line with each other…………curvature of the planks is more important than the formers……this ensures a smooth rippleless surface
