Hang on a mo mo… the description of the film, as per initial post does not tally with the details of the production as passed to me by e- mail????

I thought that making a Titanic in 10 mins was going some.

Will have to check this out !!!

Ah yes, confessions of a boat builder….uses cheap PVA, BUT claims to have used aliphatic glue during construction…is that what you meant, Paul?

We are looking for model boats to feature in a short film. It's a comedy about a couple in their sixties who get caught up in a botched robbery. Lots of mistaken identity, fake guns and confused criminals.

Bit longer than 10 mins Methinks.., However I have seen some good ten minute films so anything is possible..

I think their next film should be based on Ashley's long running thread"Todays Boating" The Trials and tribulations of model boating..

Thinking about the film I have seen a Song Video only 5 mins long and it fits a heck of a lot of similar stuff in although not robbers.. Any way 10 mins -10 hours there is always the pause button at the right moment smile d

Have made a box for the Ecranoplan, and can now see, in the flesh, why I have not made a box for it before…it is HUGHE. As the tail is as wide as the wings, so the box needs to be realy really wide to accomodate it, and for what is essentially a small model.

Have purchased 1" thick high density pale blue upholstery foam , will be cut into 2 inch wide strips, to sit models on. Easy, boat bottoms flat enough to sit happily on the foam for the short period on time that they are required.

Glued numerous small bits back on. Need to wash everything properly before collection. Almost there now!

"My Lord!…….The carriage waits!"…………..As they say in show biz!

              All the best, Ashley

Ten minutes is quite a long time, after all, I got across the Atlantic, laying cable, in about 5 minutes!

Bob. I am banking on about 30 sec worth of boating coverage, and that may be generous!

I shall have to have some plaques made for their boxes "as seen (very briefly) in such-and-such film".

i am still working on Kate Winslet for the Titanic.. do you think they will notice if I glue a little figure on the front?? SORRy… bows?

The Argus is due to feature now, instead of the Ecranoplan,, which will take up too much room both in the car and on a shelf.

I have peppered the sides with portholes..as per the real thing (remember this was a converted liner) and it looks much better. The ships boats had to be repainted due to scratching as have the six inch gun protection bulges, and the bow…and the flying off ramp supports! Finally the "taking off" Camel has been glued back in place.

As I have some time off tomorrow I will have to clean them all and tape up the boxes and wotnot.

Day One of filming went wonderfully, and everyone's very impressed with the boats they've seen so far (main boat day coming up on Thursday). Ashley, we can't thank you enough!

Isla. thanks for that. WAS A BIT WORRIED about all the gaffa tape holding the boxes in the van !! (my gaffa tape) but presumably they arrived ok…

Plse remind the boys in the van, you cannot be a film back stage proffessional without having any gaffa tape!! tut tut. What do they teach them nowadays.

Any small bits that break off just pop them inside the relavent boat body.

Well well, Boats all safely home now after their little trip to Clapham, and not a broken bit to be seen. Came by car driven by a nice young lady (Alex) but still surrounded by props and so on from what I could see. I said "Cor luv, are you a film star??". I am so smooth.

Have to wait now for editing and premier..dont know if I will get an invite or not, wait and see, but I do have a tux and choice of bow ties for such an event, and if they want a band afterwards……..

Emma and the crew (they are all antipodeans) loved the little Blue NZ flag I put on the stern of the Titanic !! (our little secret please, mumstheword) and this is what it is all about, going that extra mile.

It will be interesting and not a little odd to see my handiwork on screen, even , as I suspect, it will not be on screen for very long !!

No No NO.. The storage boxes have been cobbled together from 3mm MDF, hardboard and batons of pine (or whatever) using gorilla glue, which is economical for larger glueing applications. They are simple 3 sided boxes with a hinged lid and close inspection will reveal the crudity of the construction.

I have, however painted them withcoloursed emulsion paint, left over from Berengars bedroom, or white from something or other we were going to paint white. This of course makes all the difference.

The first project (if you have been reading "todays boating&quot has just been painted…and what a difference.. it has been hanging around for a YEAR now, due to this and that…and I have painted it , ; it has given me the impetus to finish it off finally. Similarly, the stand, which has been made from 20mm Stirling board (look it up) has been painted a light blue-green colour (bathroom paint) and looks just sooooo much better… A weekends work has transformed the project ( I dont suppose it will work any better, but we will see).

I did box everything up as I was going to attend the Amberly museum "small steam" day, which usually has a boat section display..and last year was only one chappie on his own which was sad…and I thought that I could bolster this up by bringing a cars worth of diverse and crowd pulling boaty sort of stuff down, but in the event I had a GIG and was unable to attend (perhaps this year).

I have however put about 1000 or so more "portholes" on the Argus, after looking at the picture pasted on the back of the box..and realising I had been a bit sparse with the `holes.

Ashley (looking forward to being invited to the premier) (not sure how I will parade six boats down the red carpet, but I will have to work on that)

NB Isla.. this is humour only and I dont REALLY expect to parade boats down the red carpet.

I have been appraised that the film is now completed, from a long post-edit and they are getting a date and venue for the screening. MAY BE Leicester sq but i suspect a small place in Soho…

i am not brushing off my tux (as that gets regular use with the band) but the Mrs will now have to choose something slinky and slashed to the thigh for the red carpet walk, (or not i dare say).

I have seen the film and it was very good, and a whopping 14 mins long.

Fabbo shot of the Titanic in one scene.

Bob. As I understand it, the purpose of these short films is a demo of the director/actors ability and so on, to advertise their talent and hence gain work.

The film will be doing the rounds of the festival circuit, and being shown as an adjunct to smaller films in niche cinemas, or perhaps as part of a short film season at a smaller cinema.

As such I think the directors would take a dim view of me putting anything on youtube!!

I hope to have a DVD copy later on to show friends and family, anyone wishing to travel down to see 30 seconds worth of boats is most welcome (at some stage!!)

Ah, Paul, no one can upstage Colin for pond arrivals. I did see the parks person sweeping the car parking space (reserved by Purple ribbon) last time. I hope he gives notice of his arrival next time so we can tie our jaws up so they dont drop to the floor when his glam`rous assistants bring in the boats.

I shall arrive in the usual IGNIS and wear dark glasses, I don`t want too much fuss.

The Mrs is cooking "a quick cheese savoury" for tea (a readers receipe from the Jimmy Young cook-book). so that`s tomorrows lunch sorted (leftovers), however I will save a bottle of bolly from the after screening party to accompany it.
