Today look much more promising for my daily walk but for the moment I'll round up the shots from Sunday . These vessels are now well known in this series of On My walks but if the opportunity takes I'll point my camera in the direction of what's on the horizon or leaving the river .

Hi Paul Must have just missed you . Yes the rather nice model of the Royal Iris was built by Barrie Freeman , Not only does it look the part but with all the sound effects the model can conjure up memories for some of the folks   of a certain age that pass the lake. Often these folks stop for a chat with Barrie to recall their own memories of that by gone period and trips from the Pier Head to New Brighton on the Fish and Chip excursions happy days .

          thanks for taking interest

What a superb day but very cold . Plenty of activity to record some of the regular visitors and a general assortment of anything that floats.

Here is the Atlantic Conveyor out bound for Halifax NS. Heading in bound the coaster Amadaus

In contrast to the previous shot a really small survey vessel was ploughing through the surf and stopped in the shipping lane . it didn't stay to long in that location.

                Afternoon all

An excellent day with good visibility but little traffic . There is still a few pictures from the previous days walk which include the Archer class P2000 HMS Biter . used for training and is part of the Manchester and Salford Universities RN Naval unit based at HMS Eaglet Liverpool . Also one of those wonderfully complex dredgers that would be a model makers worst nightmare the Arco Beck .

HMS Biter completed in 1986 at Watercraft Ltd Shoreham on Sea

                img_0273.jpg

Arco Beck a suction dredger 99.83m in length and 3324 tons . Home port is London.

Even the smaller craft get a look in . I can only assume this RIB, doing a fair speed is heading out to the wind farm.

That's finishes Tuesday's walk but there is more to come .

                    Ahoy there!…..Captain Wooley

Perhaps, one day, you'll walk the other way for a change and post a few pictures of the Hoylake scenario?

We've not been back there, since the day of filming and it would be nice to see it again

                    Many thanks, old bean

                      Ahoy there again……Captain Wooley

It would be interesting for the viewers…….Me and Kevin…..To see a selection of pictures of Fort Perch?

Such an interesting subject, you could almost wear your camer out, taking pix of this that and the other!

                      The Fort…..The views out….The Beatles connection…….The Museum……..Thetis stuff………WW2 display…….The Wireless station…..etc

It could have made a great article for the Magazine too?

We used to enjoy exploring the tunnels leading to the external enbraisures etc, but, alas, they are all condemned

                      Many thanks, Dave

New Brighton like you've never seen it before!

Even got Stavros S Niarchos on the skyline!

                        That was fortunate?

Hi Bob Now that's a nice shot , seeing that its hard to believe that only 48 hours previous the entire fort was surrounded by which only happens these days at equinox tides. I don't know whether you are aware but under what is the leisure complex , fun fair and theatre are industrial workshops , even the old machinery is still in place as it was to difficult to remove. During WW2 and surprisingly given its close proximity to the docks , munitions , gun barrels and other war material was made in these underground facilities .

                          Thanks for posting

Not a good day blustery with rain squalls but I do like my afternoon walk . with the camera to hand I managed to stay upright long enough to get these shots of the SKS Tanaro at 109786 tons , 243m long by 42.04m in beam OBO tanker . One of the larger vessels to enter the Mersey in bound to the Tranmere oil terminal . The Tanaro was built in 1999 by Hyundai heavy Industries Ulsan South Korea and is classed as an OBO { Ore Bulk Oil } carrier.

As you can see the stern tug has some work to do.

The Mersey has been active over the past week and there are a number of vessels that have entered the river , discharged their cargo and departed on the following tide . These are just some I managed to record which have moved on except the City of Cardiff which arrived on Thursday .

This is container ship DS Blue Ocean which arrived on the 24th and is now on its way to Setubal in Portugal .

The general Cargo vessel Chopin entering the port of Liverpool on the 25th in now in Irish waters at Drogheda

                              img_0368.jpg

Thun Galaxy a general cargo vessel is now bound for Amsterdam .

                              img_0421.jpg

Finally the Hopper dredger City of Cardiff which I have shown previously but not quite as detailed a shot . Entered the Mersey on Thursday and remains in the river .

What a great collection of photos Dave.

We are in our caravan at present and have been in outback Queensland and NSW and actually saw one boat, we even went for a short cruise in her on the mighty Darling River. It is the PV Jandra, a modern (2001) replica of the original Jandra which was built in the late 19th century, and was used on the Darling carrying wool. The original was steam powered, but the replica has a Deutz diesel driving a generator which supplies power to an electric motor on each paddle.

Hi Peter it may be a replica but what a lovely subject . if my memory serves me correct there was an article I seem to remember in an old edition of Model Boats on a similar paddle boat called the Etona which I believe is still working the Murray river . Electric drive for paddles now that's ECO.

My last walk was on Saturday and not much activity to record , often it's just timing

Mersey Spirit is a small 2366ton coastal tanker, arrived Saturday and departed Sunday for Northern Island .

The second shot a small hulled boat Viper I really don't have any information on its origins but it looked good .

last shot was the Pilot boat with the Smit Waterloo in the background.

This morning I had a a press visit to the "launching of the Snowdrop" one of the Mersey Ferries that has been transformed into a floating piece of contemporary art . At the same time commemorating some aspects of the dazzle schemes used during WW1. What ever you may think of this new livery Sir Peter Blake the artist commissioned by Liverpool Biennial 14-18 NOW and Tate Liverpool has produced an eye catching scheme and if it gets people talking then its doing its job. . Judge for yourself .

Contemporary 'art' it may be but bears little relation to the original concepts behind dazzle painting. It just indulges the ego of the artist. If I was the Snowdrop I would feel very embarrassed by it all. Hopefully she will revert to her proper livery before too long.

After seeing this on the local news, I couldn't help but think – oh no what have they done to a lovely vessel, it looks like the local nursery have been "let loose". Sir Peter Blake (famous for the album cover of the Beatles LP, Sgt Peppers) hasn't got it right with this design.

Must agree with Colin, the sooner she is returned to her correct livery the better.

Hi Colin first I think it's quite a lively concept .I doubt it was ever meant to be a pure incarnation of dazzle camouflage only a loose interpretation. Aboard the vessel on the bulkhead walls are posters with lots of pictures that explain the concept of dazzle .and some of the pictures are more way out than the Snowdrop. There was no hard and fast rule about colour so long as the pattern was disruptive and deceiving. Every colour used on the Snowdrop was used during WW1 and commissioned by the Admiralty. Many US troop ships used a far more vivid array of disruptive /low visibility designs than the British .

Whether the Snowdrop's colour scheme is to anyone's liking (or not), the vessel is to remain in this colour scheme for two years, according to the news tonight.
