I know that the prop shaft can be secured in the hull by the use of epoxy but I'm thinking of using epoxy putty as it won't be runny and will offer support to the prop shaft and support leg whilst it goes off. I have a certain amount of play between these and the keel and they will have to be wedged in position if using epoxy.

Also it will be easier to sand at the hull surface than epoxy. I could use it at this position and then fill the rest of the holes with epoxy. Any thoughts on this?

Anybody used epoxy putty and if so how strong is it?

      Chris

          Hi Chris,

The most important thing is really rough up the tube with course abrasive or a file to get a mechanical bond with epoxy and use putty or P38 for fairing.

Mix some of this in with your epoxy and you can choose the viscosity you want. Works for me. BTW Ray's advice is sound, as usual.

Thanks for the replies chaps. Good idea on the micro-balloons of which I have some.

As long as it's at 1:12. smiley

PS I've ordered some Eze Putty from Deluxe Materials that goes off in 15 minutes to use for the initial positioning/support and fairing in and which will be useful for other things. I've had to order some SS bolts for fixing the motor mounts as well so it will be a few days before I can do anything.
