        Hi Steve,

Liked very much the look of your model when you say cardboard and wood am I correct in assuming this is what the model is built of?, I am curious to find out more details of this method of construction and any information you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

        Thanks, John.

          Hi John,

the original kit is all card and costs about £300 from Marcle Models. it is built in the same way as the original full size ship except instead of steel one uses card and instead of welding one uses glue.

to convert her to radio control, we replaced the card sheets for the hull plating with the same thickness ply (0.7mm) and the same with the decks. these were then sealed and covered with very fine glass cloth and resin. the entire srtucture is still the original card. she is powered by a 7 pole motor (called a jubilee i think from model motors direct).

if you can send me an email off list i will send you some pictures of the construction earlier in the build ([email protected]).

          best regards

            Congratulations Carl,

A superb model,  hull construction is amazing.  Nice to see people using alternative and unusual building materials for a working boat.  Photos are great.

            Cheers – Kenny

my model has just gotten lights from old recycled tv parts-leds and wires.i have servo units on the forwd 76mm and radar has a rotating motor from a toy i found and has a mc donald straw situated on it via an adaptor which then runs up to theenclosed mast to circulate at a good speed.i fitted a swith for all the white lights and a switch for the nav lights and also ai lights(air identi)my stern light is 9 volts and my ships two motors are 800 torpedo with 12 volts supplying it-she goes -will post video at weekend as i just about sorted the servo for rudders-they only go a certain degree-is ther any way that there are special strong rudder servos around..wish me luck—my wife wants it to sink ha ha ha
