      Hi All

My son (14) and I fancy building the Mountfleet Models River Queen. We are not beginners to modelling including boat, however I want my son to do most of the work as i am building a kit also.

Is it a kit suitable for a novice, with help from someone with more experience (me)?

      Any comments aboutt his kit?

         Hi,

Nice looking boat this, I have not built it but, Mpountfleet have a good record and are respected makers. There has also been two kit reviews in model mags.  I have also toyed with this kit

For a younger modeller what abourt this for a thought, Caldercraft Isis, this is a harbour tender/ tug.

It is very slighlty bigger, a realy nice boat with alot of scope to improve. It also has a one piece fibreglass moulding for the supertructure and access and sailing will be alot better. I have seen several of these and they have all been realy nice and sailed well. I think this is an ideal learners scale boat.

         Regards

         MARK

          Thanks for that Mark.

I will suggest this to my son, however do you or anyone else have the reviews of the Mountfleet River Queen or copies of them I could have? Will pay any expenses. My son is quite keen on this kit and he has been looking at different kits for weeks but not sure if he has seen the Caldercraft kit.

          Regards

          Alan

            Hi.

If you can I would definately in inspect the Mountfleet kit before you buy. I build their Pilot Boat some time ago. First I would suggest you have several boats under your belt first before a Mountfleet Kit.

I found the quality of some of the materials poor quality. Instructions in quite a few places did not match the plans. Bits were missing.

In fact I put the boat away for a year before I finished it. This is obviously my own opinion, I might have been just unlucky.

You might look at Modelslipway’s Kits. In my view totally different class, they are also very helpfull if you have problem.
