        Greetings Colin

It's me again ,the good news is that I am nearing the end of the SY MEDEA build ,how did you terminate the rigging on the bulwarks so that it can be disconnected to enable the superstructure to be removed, the manual does not show the fittings required and I cannot find anything in the kit that would seem to be suitable?

As a matter of interest the holes in the brackets that are supposed to support the boats Davits are too small after drilling them out there is not enough metal left to support the davits, I am at the moment using modified cable connectors , after stripping all the plastic off , they look quite good, I am never going to build another boat of any kind.

        Regards

        Bryan

A touch drastic, perhaps? Is this because of your experiences with this particular kit or have you other reasons for being so adamant?

If it's any consolation I have at the moment a half-finished kit by another manufacturer which would try the patience of a saint. In spite of warnings about the quality of other kits by this manufacturer (it's not Deans) I liked the look of the model so I went ahead and shelled out two hundred and sixty quid on this pile of junk. Note to memorise – always have a good look in the box before you buy the kit. I've had to throw away all of the planking as it was far too soft; the die-cut frames are so badly made that the edges are crushed and hard to glue, and the superstructure is made of a  horrible high-density plastic foam material which is reluctant to bend or glue. I shall almost certainly have to replace that with ply. I'll finish the bl**dy thing out of sheer cussedness but I'll never buy another Dumas kit.

            Bryan,

            Don't give up the ship!

My rigging is fixed at the bulwark end. I used fine shirring elastic from a haberdashery store. I used fine stiff wire to make eyebolts which glue into drilled holes in the masts. The top end of the rigging is secured using small wire hooks which hook over the eyebolts. These are simply unhooked to detach the rigging. Being made of elastic thread keeps it taut. I can't show you a detailed photo as I am not in the UK at the moment.

I'm afraid that Dean's kits, along with those of certain other manufacturers and unlike plastic kits, do require a varying amount of input from the expertise of the builder.

              Colin and Dave

My mistake I assumed that the rigging was unhooked from the bulwarks, I could not tell from the picture or plan

I prefer scratch building boats from just a picture, it is so much easier. Perhaps I should have said no more kits, I nearly starting smoking again.

              Regards

              Bryan
