hi all, is there anyone out there who can tell me if i can still get crystals for my r/c unit,it`s an old unit which was given to me, and thought i could use it for my boat project,my boat uses two receivers, one is an acoms receiver, and the second is a futaba receiver but wanted to have two seperate channels as one part of my boat uses the futaba receiver to operate the motor drive and rudder, the second unit is an acoms receiver to operate two flip-up panels to release objects,ie bait and hook baits as i am interested in fishing when i get the chance, the main issue that i`m facing is the futaba handset,i took out the single socket and split it into two sockets with a two way switch,so i could switch between the two frequencies, how ever i was told by a friend that the crystals that i`m using  no longer exist ie 27 mhz as i wanted two seperate frequencies but was told that the handset that i`m using is out of date and can`t be used in this way, money is of an issue at this moment in time due to the resesion and all that so now i`m stuck with a boat that will never be used due to what i`ve been told, and a new handset that  has a four way control will cost me over a hundred quid, which is what i don`t have, does any one have any suggestions on possibly upgrading my handset,as i have put in alot of hard work in to my project to find it`s to no avail, please help,

Hmmmm. 27Meg still is alive and kickin` and very common, crystals no problem,  I suggest a trip to an established model shop to see if they have any. I dont think I have seen anything other than one type of 27M crystal ?? Ashley

          Hi Firefly and ashley,

Any good online modelshop will sell you a matched pair of 27 mhz crystals.

Ashley, the 2 Futaba M series 6 channel sets i have are both on 27 FM band, Quite rare in those days i think? but the most common 27mhz band is AM and should be available in solid colours and splits.

Have a surf, there are loads of on-line shops that will have crystals, I got the last lot locally at Mick Charles models (but he is not on line!!!)  . I think a figure of £10 – £12 a pair is a likely sum to pay, from memory.

Ian, you may be right about your 6 channel set, as you say, no probs with AM crystals.   Ashley

                Firefly,

It is very possible you can get two extra channels out both Acoms and Futaba sets.

Can you tell us the model number of the handsets and the receivers?

                  Hi Guys,

I have been given a 27FM set, will it interfere with 27AM? as I thought of using it in a rescue boat.

                  Len.

It will interfere with the corresponding colour on AM.

You can’t swap the FM transmitter and receiver crystal like you can on AM (just a hint)

                      Hi Lee,

I did not mean I only had a set of Xtls, I was given the Tx & Rx as well so does that still apply ?

                      Len.

                        Len,
I understood you correctly the first time. If you use your crystals as per instructions your sets will clash.

In an emergency, put your 27AM Tx crystal in the Receiver and the Rx crystal in the 27 am Transmitter.

Your AM set will be off-band or at a different frequency so will not clash with FM boat

Firefly, I have added  two extra servo channels on upwards of a dozen sets . It’s a piece of cake

                        Regards,

                        Lee Penny

                          Hi Dave(Firefly)

When I first read your first post (18th)  I thought you were taking a technical diabolical liberty with the 2 crystal arrangement . I said nowt because it read like you had used that successfully before.

I’ve just read this from the 20th I see your above post in a different light.  You haven’t had that two crystal system working as yet???

1 It shouldn’t actually work:- it will alter the transmitter crystal frequency.

2 You said you had an old Futaba set at which I suggested a much easier solution that will definitely work and requires one of your original receivers.

                          Regards

                          Lee Penny

                          your R102GF has 4 channels and I’m 90% certain the FP2T2-GSx1 has 4 channels

If it has the OKI chip marked L9632 then you have a complete 4-ch system. Ch 3,4 needs switches or rotary pots on handset and male connectors on receiver.
