I've been building boats (scratch and kits) for 40 years.I Have been shocked at the poor quality of this one. What really bothers me is that many parts were put into the kit that are clearly useless. So many issues to go into. Anyway does anyone have any insight to this?

Has anyone catalogued all the problems with this kit?

          Bud

Have you taken it up with Mountfleet? They are in the best position to rectify the problems both for you and for their own future. If casting moulds need replacing, ply parts are the wrong shape etc then they should be told. You might get a part-refund or discount on a future kit if you send them a list of what's wrong. At the very least you should get replacement parts. I know Adam and he's a decent bloke who wouldn't willingly fob off anyone with duff gear.

            Bud,

As Dave says, you need to take this up directly with the manufacturer.

They did suffer a severe fire in their premises not too long ago and in some instances have been reliant on white metal castings taken from production examples rather than the original masters which have been destroyed which may have degraded the quality.

This is not an excuse but a possible reason and I would agree that they should replace substandard castings.

Agreed, give them a call/email. I’ve found them helpfull and honest, a good company to deal with.

                Hi Bud,

I have just finished the Mountfleet 'Danny Boy' drifter, it was my first large scale model boat (though I have been modelling for 47years), and yes the plan and instruction book leave a lot to be desired. Also the white metal fittings were very poor, 95% needed lots of fettling and 5% were un-useable.

Adam Slater at MFM was helpful and said if I sent him details of the build errors he would rectify them, and he also replaced many of the fittings FOC.

MFM models look good, but I will look elsewhere for my next project.

                Cheers,

                Denzil
