As a newbie, I raise my hands and say I know very little about Pond Yachts. I have made models of power boats, cars, hovercraft for the best part of 30 years. Sadly, my sister's husband (who is 80) has been unwell for some time and 4 weeks ago they moved house. In the process, my brother in law's Pond Yacht was de-rigged (if that is the term) without any record being kept of how it was!

As a model maker, my sister has kindly given me the task of putting everything right above deck. I do not know if the yacht is a static model or has ever been sailed, although I suspect that at some time it may have been sailed because somebody has put expanded polystyrene in the bow and aft sections.

If size helps, the stern to bow length is 48", the stern to bowsprit is 67", the beam (at widest) is 12", the combined mast height is 58" and the keel to deck height is 15".

My question is can anybody kindly throw some light on this yacht, specifically where can I find rigging plans so that I can make her shipshape once more and make my brother in law happy again.

I have created an album which I hope provides some detail at least.

Many thanks for taking the time to read this thread.

      Tony

          Hello Tony

Welcome to our little corner of the world.

Your brother in laws model is called a Gaff Rigged Cutter and very similar to this example.

This is a typical rig layout for a full size Gaff Cutter so it might help you out and this is the LINK to the website

Hi Paul , ,A littel off the subject but first the stent has been removed so back to boat building . .Heard a story about a sand yacht racer in one of the camp sites so set out to build it .

subject, relative simple in design but steering a short problem .Sail is a fixed solid canvas , steering as on a model car but sail has to be controlled .Any advise welcomed winkmichael

                  Hello Michael

Good to hear that you are on the mend after the stent.

We shouldn't take over Tony's thread but depending upon the overall size and weight of your model I would think that a standard sail servo would control your sail and a micro servo should serve well for steering.

For a more robust frame I would opt for aluminium tube and providing that you don't want brakes the model could be controlled via a 2 channel system.

                  Paul
