Just like some info on if a 50" model MTB Perkasa could be made to run with 3 12 volt ducted fans Normaly used in aircraft. All input will be welcome. Getting the air in isn't a problem. Just need to know if the fans can generate sufficent power. Barry

Sorry if this sounds obtuse but models of KD Perkasa are invariably propelled by water screws aka propellers – rather like the real thing was. Are you proposing to use ducted fans and, if so, how?

Sounds like a bad idea to me.

The fans would look very odd on the back.

The rudders would be relatively infective with no prop wash over them

They won't be efficient compared with a normal drive, so less speed per amp used.

Can you reverse them? If not you'll have less control of a big heavy model. If they do reverse you'll need a huge breaking distance.

On the plus side, it would be a fun experiment, and many of us would like to see the results.

The bushy park experience says that you need probably twice the amount of power in a ducted fan compared to a water prop to achieve the same results. The advantage of a fan is that once on the plane with a light hydro type design you can achieve much faster speeds. But..you may struggle to get a Perkasa style/size

hull fast enough unless the fans were monstrously powerful…

                Hi Barry,

I'm guessing you were thinking of mounting the 3 fans in the transom to represent the gas turbine exhausts, may not have enough thrust to move such a large model, but they would sound really good 😀 I'm using a FMS 50mm in a jet Provost they produce 600grammes of thrust on 11.1volts. George at 4Max stocks them.

                Regards Ray
