          Very unpleasant trip!

How do they decide if the trip is safe or not?………Are there any laid down sets of conditions to go by?

            Bob,

Bad weather is something of a norm up there. Many years ago I travelled on P&O's old St Clair from Aberdeen to Lerwick and it was one of the roughest trips I have ever experienced.

However the English Channel has its moments, a couple of years back we were clinging to the sides of our bunks on a Brittany Ferries overnighter to St Malo but that is quite unusual on the route. With advancing age we now always book a four berth cabin to St Malo as accessing an upper bunk in a 'blow' can be, shall we say, interesting.

You can always tell when the Irish Sea is bad as the Steam Packet wont sail…….and those guys will sail when the P&O ferries stay in port.

I've had some good crossings with the Steam Packet.

Brilliant video. Have done Hull Rotterdam many times and the best voyages have always been on the last boat before they closed the service due to bad weather. Pepsi Max for free!

We had to make the same trip in the stormy depth of winter…..Hull to Rotterdam

Looking out from the deck, I wondered what all the fuss was about?

Then they opened the lock gates!………And all hell let loose!

                    What a frightful trip!……Once bitten….Twice shy!
