Hi I’m a complete no is to the model world I have plans for the steam launch Mabel it seems an easy model to start with I’m happy to make a start on the wood side of things my problem is the draw in quotes a unit steam engine and a unit boiler No2 can’t find any information on the internet so any help would be great

Hello Michael and welcome to the forum.

I'm not really sure that this is a suitable 'beginner' model, mainly because steam power is quite a specialised branch of model engineering.

I think my first move would be to join a club – preferably one that has members with this interest (boats and steam).

Failing that, I assume that you bought a plan for the model from Sarik ? They also have a section on model engineering, so you may be able to get plans for the steam plant "No.2" as well.

Alternatively, attend a model show (when we are able !) there will probably be someone there who can best advise you….you may even be able to source a 'used' unit to get you started. I would insist, however, on a boiler certificate for safety's sake.

Hi Micheal,

If all else fails buy Model Boats magazine within it there are adverts for companies who can supply a steam plant for your launch, there are other cheaper ways of powering if your happy with electric power and an imitation steam engine and boiler.
