Next week we plan a bit of a facelift to the look of the Modelboats website, the first it has had for some years. All the same things will be here, and the same functionality, just modernising the look of things and giving a bit more space to where it is needed.

The mechanics haven't changed, everything in the forum is the same as it is now. Your login area is now at the top of the page above the logo, but any changes are just layout related. If anyone has any problems, clearing your cache should fix any pages that appear strange. Here is a link to show you how to clear your cache if required.

Here is a mock-up of the new home page (without all the finalised advertising and other images)

I'm sure Katy will be pleased to hear that, she has put a lot of work into the makeover.

There are still a few things to iron out, for example some of the image sizes have changed so the old ones don't display clearly but this should largely be corrected over the next few days. In the meantime, if anyone finds any broken links or things that don't seem to work correctly either PM me or post them on this thread.

I am finding the new look website is running significantly slower but put this down to teething problems however I am now suffering from popups that seem to be piggybacking on some of the forum threads.

All of my security is up to date and I haven't changed any of my settings nor downloaded/loaded any new programmes.

                  Paul,

Yes, it does seem to be running a bit slower for me too but I'm not getting any intrusive popups? What are you seeing?

                      Hi Paul and Colin.

I'm sorry that you both appear to be having site speed problems. The back end of the website hasn't changed so any slowdown is coincidental I'm afraid.

There are no pop ups associated with the forum either. It sounds like you may have picked up some malware from somewhere. Again this is very unlikely to be anything to do with the layout change here. The changes we have made here have not installed anything on your computer.

                      Thanks

                      Katy

                        Hi Katy

Apart from Hotmail this is the only site that I have been on in the past three days, could you have a rouge link that is picking up a connection to your adchoices flag advert?

I like it, good job Katy. No pop ups or speed problems for me.

The site runs slower for me too, and I know it has to pass under all that water to get here!!

I've just loaded an "Ad blocker" to my "Safari" on the Mac, and that stops all those unwanted ads coming up – unless they're actually associated with site. I was going to ask why there is a large header on the home page, know I can see from the Long Builds image that that is where these ads mostly appear.

                              Aye, Kim

I'm using Firefox 24.0 as the browser and there are no speed issues or pop-ups here, either. Have you guys thought of running an anti-malware program such as Malwarebyes? It's a freebie and comes as used and recommended by our IT guru Huw.
Nice job, Katy. It's a pity that us poor old geezers can't get an update and makeover after six years!

                                  Hi all

I have to say that Colin put a lot of his own time into this to help Katy come up with something that would generally be well received and a step forward.

BTW – it works well and quickly on my computer (in Essex!) which is using BT Infinity for ISP and Safari as a browser.

Still slow for me, I have tried changing ISP and checked download speed (16mb)

Could this be an issue with my 64bit Win 7 system?

Working fine here down in deepest Kent using Firefox on Solydk and openSUSE linux systems.

None of that winblows stuff used here. laugh

Glad to say that I have sorted out the problem and it was nothing to do with MB, based upon your comment about coincidence I widened my search to see what else could have effected my computer.

Your updates coincided with Google closing and with their closing procedure they left a few sneaky lines of code hidden away in the depths of my machine.

The new MB site is working at full speed and is far better than its predecessor, you are to be congratulated on a job very well done (even if a grumpy bug-er did have a moan)
