      Hi All,
We are back, from our former Model Yacht Design of all things Norfolk Broads model kits (which we decided to rename ‘Broadland Classics’), following an unintentional break due to extended military service needs. Now retired, we have dusted down our old blueprints and lines plans, and intend bringing out the first kit range featuring Herbert Wood’s famous Light Class Cruisers of the 20’s and 30’s Era’s, followed along with a classical River Cruiser yacht of the 40’s. Presently working hard on the moulding plugs, we aim to have the first ready for the Warwick Model Show in November all fired up for Christmas. As we progress, relevant details will be posted on our website ‘broadlandclassics.co.uk’ (which should be up and running by the end of June). kindest to you All. We will keep in touch via this forum, answering any Qs etc until our new website is rolling.

      Paul and Nicola. ‘Broadland Classics’.

            Hello All,

Quick update of progress. We are beavering away on the moulding plugs for Queen/Princess of Light, Ring/Speed of Light and Japonica Yacht, and a scale dinghy for each kit. Not too far away now from the waxing up stage. The website is almost there with a couple of alterations and hope to have it running very soon.

Following many requests, we have also decided to re-launch our 1:8 scale Farrington 30 River Cruiser yacht, with some refinements.

            Kindest

              Hello Paul and Nicola

Why don't you post a few pictures for us to get a better idea of what you are on about?

                Thanks for that Bob,

We have just set up a facebook page which gives a direct route to our ongoing projects, and there you can see what we are on about. It will also allow us to put in more photos instantly than via the overall website of course.

Facebook, we are convinced, gives a pretty wide audience of all levels, therefore we took the decision to get that online, whilst building the website. Do check us out and let us know what you think.

Hoping to release the website tonight. It's quite rightly long days presently and will be for some time to come.

                        Mike and Bob,

Chaps, as requested, I have posted four albums in here of our forthcoming kits and current under wet trials.

Hope that helps. And whilst I have published our website, I am told it takes a little to settle in on search engines, for whatever reason.

                                  Good luck for the future.

                                    Paul, dear chap,

Many thanks indeedy. Having recently retired from the grand old RN, it's nice to be able to release my life long dream.

I can promise you, little Ring of Light, will be one heck of a cracking kit…….

I am taking every care to ensure she represents the elegance and of course detail Ring class were built with by Herbert Woods. It's taken many years to get it right thus far, and so we're not going to drop one now, even if, the launch date goes slightly right, though hopefully not. We are working god send hours to keep on track.

I shall keep this thread, and our Facebook pages for those that like facebook, full appraised of progress and photos.

I have the old Reeves and Thomas model shipbuilding book which features Ring of Light. The book was a prize for coming top of the class back in 1963. Subsequently my scholastic career never reached the same heights!

All being well I am hoping to launch Ring of Light class, late Dec… We are on track, as busy as we are for we are also aiming to put out Queen of Light around that time.

Ring class will measure in at 1:16 scale which measures 27" (686mm) length on deck. An attractive scale and size to transport of course. We thought long and hard over various scales and by popular vote came up with what we have.

                                              Colin,

Just a note on that lovely book by Reeves & Thomas you mention. Yes an excellent book, however having spent countless hours drafting up the Ring Class from real craft for our moulding plugs and of course the partial blue prints I have, the model in Reeves & Thomas is actually, sadly, quite a bit out of true, further the keel in the book does not represent the 'Light' keels, which were specific in Herbert Wood's design, for a number of reasons. The hatches are not quite right, and the cockpit area lacks what was. The colours to paint finish again were out, for at the time, where Ring Class were going through a Green anti fouling and remained so for some years, with white topsides and cream cabin tops. Having said all that, I note the book refers to producing an inner decorated forward saloon if model makers wished. I have had numerous discussions with designers, and of course in my own field of research to get our model kits just right, I feel it vital such is spot on, naturally.

I was passed the book you mention only recently by a dear friend, suffice to say, nice as it is, is quite a way off the Ring Class in reality. I would say the book you have was produced more as a representation and not to exacting standards in design.

                                              Kindest again
