naval battle

This saturday saw the last naval battle to be held at peasholme park in scarborough, I was there to see it, it was a modelers dream come true.

the battle that lasted roughly 35 mins, was a real fun event, anyone wanting to see it will have to wait until next year now, there were around 800 people who did see it, just goes to show that there is still life in modelling.

"Naval warfare" has been running since (they think) 1927.

The leaflet (wot I just HAPPEN to have at hand) says…In the early days the models consisted of first world war battleships, a couple of Q ships,a U-boat and a liner, the "Orontes"

All vessels were operated under manpower, were 20 or so feet long.. and electric power was introduced in around 1929. During WW2 they were put into storage , but rotten so a new set were made, based on the battle of the River Plate…The Ajax, Exeter,Achillies and the Graf Spee.

The modern ones are new ships, and of course the enemy battleship , the "Robert Eaves" and enemy sub bear no relation to any bnattleship of the past..as this is family entertainment. ?

A truly fabulous show, and as you say Steven, a modellers dream.
