Here is my first attempt – a slide show of the building of the miniature Norwegian barque Svaerdstad at 32'=1!

An excellent first attempt……Well done, Bob!

There are a few shots out of order in parts, but otherwise……Splendid!

            Thanks Bob,

I have no idea how they got out of order. The images are just labelled from 1 up to whatever is the last one. It is in the correct oder on my computer when viewed as a slide show, but some have moved about on U-tube, but generally, I am pleased with the result. I must investigate how to put a bit of public domain background music on it.

                That's better Bob!

I'm a bit surprised at the choice of wood you've used!

Some of it looks like old firewood?……..Especially the rudder!

Apologies if I've miss read the pictures!

The wood is a lovely piece of obeche, quite expensive to buy, but I was given a car boot full of offcuts some years ago and am still working my way through it. As for the rudder, I have just looked at the pictures again and have to say, that to me, it looks exactly what it is – sheet brass. You can even see where I soldered the lower part up again after cutting the slot between the sternpost and rudder!

Didn't realise the rudder was brass!……..I should have known better!

                        Thanks,

U-Tube takes a bit of getting used to. The pictures initially went on in the wrong order and I had to push them into the correct sequence which is difficult when they are mixed up. I think next time, I will number them in the images and then it will be easier to re-arrange them correctly.

They have a selection of background music, but I couldn't find any pre-listen button, so I had no idea what it was like, so left it off. No doubt I will get better at it as time goes on.

It is a very neat way of putting a display selection on though, and I like the way they fade them in and out. You can select any number of seconds, and I finally settled for 4! Any longer and it seems to drag. The show can be paused by clicking on the image. Then re-started by clicking on it again.

Wonder if anyone else uses it, that could give us some more tips?

This morning, I found that background music had appeared on the slide show of its own accord. I placed two more shows on this morning, one for steam & motor ships, the other for sailing ships, but the background music has not appeared there yet!

I like the accuracy of the liners………Spot on!

Didn`t hear any music on either video?

                              Bob,

The music has so far only appeared on the first one concerning the building of the Svaerdstad! I assume it will eventully appear on the other two, but not really sure!

                                  Thanks,

U Tube is fairly simple to use, but they don't give any instructions. Easy enough to put a slide show on, but took me some time to remember to select the image change duration and how to put the audio on. I now have three slide shows on there. The link is to the right of my name in the U Tube page. The shows are: Sailing Ship Models, Steam/Motor ship Models and the Svaerdstad build.

So that`s how you build them!

                                      Very interesting….with music too!

Are the windows etc printed on paper and then glued in position?

I would like to see another model build "photo by photo"…..To give us time to study the construction?………But I suppose, I could pause the video?

                                      Well done, Bob

The windows are printed onto self-adhesive matt sheet called "Safmat." They are then stuck on.

The MB article contains quite a lot on new methods as I am continually changing the way I do things. A comprehensive U-tube entry would simply not be practical as the more that is on, the longer it takes to download.

                                                Thanks,

I now have six videos on there and it is interesteing to see which is most popular. My slide show of life aboard the old RMS St. Helena is at the top, followed by building the model of the Svaerdstad. Next comes the 12 steamhip models followed by the 12 sailing ship models. Almost at the bottom is the building of the passenger liner Kenya. Although I still regard this as one of my top three models, I have lways been surprised at an almost total lack of interest in it. It failed to sell in the London auctions for two consecutive sales, not even attracting a single bid. Finally, it went for a rock-bottom price and caused me to abandon ideas of sending any more. Here is the build link:

At the moment, I have gone back to designing & building radio sets!
