modern sailing yachts

Hi there Guys n Gals,

I would really appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction if at all what i'm looking for exists;

I am looking for a kit for a modern sloop rigged sailing yacht with as much detail as possible, preferably about 24 inches long, with masts & sails included

it would be for the most part be an ornament but secondly used for training purposes,

yacht manufacturers do have scale models made but they cost a small fortune, a genuine scale model of my own boat is about £ 8000,

fingers crossed someone can help !

Howes Models near Oxford sell a range of what I'd call self assembly model yachts with Radio Control, some replicas of the old mono hull America's contenders, before foiling cats !

Actual kits to build from a set of wooden parts are few these days, the ones still available are older designs by the Danish Company Billings boats and are mostly plank on frame.

To have a bespoke model yacht built professionally is a whole different world from the this forum as they are earning a living at it, we building for fun mainly on this forum,

what design of yacht do you own ? we are always looking for interesting prototypes

I really appreciate your reply, I will check out Howes models shortly,

I have searched the web for replica model yachts similar to my own boat & apart from a second mortgage its not happening, lol ,,, being fairly handy I might even set about making something from scratch, if I do I will surely post the progress on here,

My own boat is a Hallberg Rassy 64, she's birthed in Lagos, Portugal, we plan to cross the Atlantic later this year and eventually the Pacific to Australia,

I will let you know how I get on with the model & thanks again for your help,,,

Good luck with your sailing adventures, some of us here have progressed through dinghy's to yachts have helped to keep marina's going over the years ££££££££££ tearing up fivers in the shower !! model boating is great because I keep the models at home.

If you can obtain some study drawings for your boat from H&R it would be a good start.

Hi Ray,

thanks for your best wishes, my wife & I love our sailing adventures & full early retirement we will start the circumnavigation,,,,, i know what you mean when you say tearing up fivers, we have progressed from a 29ft up to the 64ft with three in-between, I can imagine the model boating is just as addictive although perhaps slightly cheaper !

I will see speak with HR but I doubt any sort of detailed drawings would be fourth coming but you never know !

I will keep you posted with any news.
