My local auction house has a boxed, unmade kit of HMS Victory by Modelissimo of Italy for auction. Length is 1035mm and Height is 715mm so it's a fair size. Does anybody have any knowledge/experience of this kit manufacturer?

            Hello Loover

This type of model is very fiddly and requires mountains of patience and special skills

And worth nowt when it`s finished……….That`s only my opinion though

            Buy it cheap

              Hi Bob,

Know what you mean, I'm still trying to finish the Amerigo Vespucci, been at it for more than 3 years now, just got the rigging to do…. hahha that's a laugh "just got the rigging to do"… probably take me another 3 years. I'm hoping that when the auction comes up nobody will be interested in a box of wood.

Isn't this the case with most models today, static or r/c, even ones with expensive bits of radio control, electrics and batteries inside will struggle to recover the cost outlay. The pleasure in the hobby is in what the builder obtains by researching and constructing the model.

Not too long ago I guess we all seemed to have many more hours for the constructional side of hobby work – then along came the internet!

                Just my thoughts,

                Tony.

I agree entirely with you Tony. My modelling years are littered with models (both planes and boats) that gave me endless hours of pleasure to build and after the first flight/sail were put on a shelf until they were sold on. I well remember one plane I built – Mark IX Spitfire with operating retracts, flaps the lot and when it was finished I was too scared to fly it (not a great pilot) so I sold it to a fella who specialised in Spitfires. He decided to fit a new motor before flying and first flight was ok, such a joy to see my creation in the air but on the second flight the motor cut and the plane hit the ground from about 50 feet. The only thing that survived was his motor. After that I started building boats!

                    Paul,

Reading your post brings back memories of my, not very successful, attempt at aircraft models. Many years ago I attempted to fly a control line aircraft, it flew round a few time before hitting the ground with a thump and I took home a box of bits. The aircraft was fitted with a 0.49 glow motor, which I then fitted into an airscrew boat, and I have kept with boats ever since. The Airscrew craft didn't fare too much better, later it flipped over in the middle of a mill pond and is still probably in the murky depths to this day.

                    Tony
