Needs another poster to cover the Costa sign (dark green cloth covering coffee bar sign already..which needs slight adjustment).ran out of Blu-tac. Very nice having a back wall to stick the posters up on, saved me faffing around with the boards I have.

Table cover much more glittery than in photo. Side spots working well. Should have ironed the cloth but it creases at the slightest touch. Probably most of the creases will drop out by tomorrow. I may take a water mister to assist things.

Note. No signs ON table, NO signs on boats. Clean; todays watchword. Cant believe how long it took me to set up the stall, considering it looks very minimal, but I adjusted everything about a dozen times to get a good spacing;note..aircraft slightly forward…I moved them there for safety as I was busy round the table. Notice cards on Light Blue, aircraft stands in matching sliver-blue, ..drawing pin heads painted blue to match the cards….

The green sticky-up bits besides the Lotus are the `seaweed` fronds holding up the acrylic `water surface` that the sub is under, and also the water that the |Herald floats in (both supported by light blue foam cylinders underneath to raise them off the table a bit). Lotus lights will be on for the show and the ones underneath (that dont notice much when underwater) really light up the shiny blue satin; Herald headlamps will also be lit for show. Aircraft elevated on `Airfix stands` to give the display a bit of height, Toyboata on ramp with `Calais` arrow sign at front ..a little joke for those that have seenthe episode; Alvis on `diorama` bit of roadway; load bed filled with spare monster truck (aka tank transporter) tyres, man floating on water IN one of the tyres just in front!! Small turtle I found resting on edge of roadway. A90 elevated just clear of table as if skimming along with acrylic contrails off wing tips..not that visible in photo. Could have been a bit more lit up so the Acrylic edges fluoresce blue…will take a halogen bulb for tomorrow. Hovervan raised 1/2 inch and tinsel shoved under the skirt to give the impression of spray (and it looks christmassy!!).

Thanks for the assistance today Colin. I hope Paul likes the Model Boat magazine advertising! (as there is no my-time media stand) . Although no dolly birds as such present there were a couple of very nice young ladies on the organising stand as compensation, not that I noticed of course.

All that lot in one car trip.Took me 30 mins to find the correct packing techique. Have made a small diagram on paper so i dont faff around when packing up.

Show open today. Very strong displays from the club stands which occupied the whole of one upstairs hall plus there were competition models in the adjacent one and also some very nice boats on some of the engineering society stands downstairs.

The model boating hall was very crowded almost all day and there were some superb models on show. Unfortunately no model boating traders which is a pity as I think they would have done well given the number of potential customers there.

The scope of the exhibition has been widened this year to encompass other areas of modelling with a 'Makers Area' which includes 3D printing machines plus model railways, some fairground models and a carriage display (of the horse and cart sort).

All in all, a big improvement on previous years I thought.

            Hi Colin

I will ask our esteemed editor to hand out the leaflets in a scantily clothed state

When are we going to see these photos?

There will be a report in the March issue of the magazine on sale in February and those photos will not appear here in the meantime.

I may put some others up if I get a moment but am very busy at present plus family Christmas stuff!

Sadly the scanty photos alleged to have been taken have mysteriously been deleted by foreign power hackers.

You have a picture of the only stand of note at the show…what more could you possibly

                want???

Hello Ash, sorry I'm late with my report on your efforts, we only got back just before Christmas and have only just now got time to add my bits here!

Excellent display and I'm going to pinch some of your ideas. It was a pity they put you on the ground floor away from the boaters upstairs, but you had a prime position and made good use of it. Having a wall behind to display your published items, and then making your display 3D (not just plonking models on a table top), items raised on plinths (the planes) or on a suitable ground (the all terrain armoured thingy) or under water (created using pale blue coloured perspex) all gave a good visual impact.

Keeping the table top clear of tags etc and mounting them up the sides also made it far easier to read without bending over the display and blocking others view too.

Here's some images I took, hope not to spoil Colin's report.

Ashley and his helper on the stand, Saturday of the Show. Note the background images of his projects.

                  ashdisplay.jpg

The full display from a side view, shows the variation in display heights and space given to items (no clutter.)

                  jbondcar.jpg

The Topgear Bond car, suitably illuminated from below, and beneath the blue tinted perspex sheet, I'll copy that!

                  vehicle.jpg

The all terrain armoured vehicle, note the display matting.

And finally, I couldn't resist this vehicle, not Ashley's, but the first time I've seen the RNLI transport lorry as a modelling subject, at 1/24 scale too.

I'll see you again Ashley, sometime in the summer, as we now have a very good reason to be regular visitors to your area, a 'great grandson' who I'm sure will be into model boats (if I have my way.)

                  Aye, Kimmo

Kimmo. Thanks for that. Trevor was helper for two days and most helpful it was having someone else on stand.

Perspex water looked better in the flesh, looking at the various snaps taken. Lotus illuminated from below by the bank of LED mounted underneath..to light the bottom of the pond up but sadly not [wefull enough. Does a good job on display though. Seaweed ply perspex supports. Side spotlamp towers effective if not that obvious. Big difference seen when turnong them om. All LED so no burns or heat issues. Calais signpost made me larf as a good detail, not sure if anyone noticed (its where they were heading). Alvis on a bit of roadway about to plunge into the water. Hapless crewman floating on tyre to one side waving at the men on board. Fridge magnet crab/lobster/octopus underwater as I happened to see them in Nauticalia! Notices could have been adjusted downwards slightly for several wheelchair users.

Hi I am new here and wanted to say the RNLI Lorry is based on one of the MAN tractor units they use at Poole supply HQ. its 1:14th scale fully r/c with sound and lighting, the trailer is again based on a actual one. Great photo.

                        Hello and welcome Kevin.

Being an RNLI volunteer I just had to take the shot, it's just so unique seeing a unit done out in RNLI colours. I've sent it to Poole to see if they can use it.

Any reason for the odd sounding scale 1:14?

                        Cheers, aye Kim

It is made from a Tamiya kit, with a servonaut sound & light system. it works on 12 volts and all the lights work. The trailer lights are sensed via a infa red [pick-up from the 5th wheel. the decals were done by a local company from photo's of the real one. I live in Poole and do some shows with the Lifeboat Enthusiast society with the truck and my lifeboat models. Perhaps you could send me a copy of the photo.
