Hi Vinnie,

Scanning through the forum, there seems to be an underlying requirement for indexes for Model Boats Magazine. I know you have had the question asked before and your answer was "Not Yet". Have you any update on this question?

I  for one, would gladly pay for indexes for the magazine if they were available,  trawling through piles of mags trying to find articles on specific subjects can be time consuming( but always interesting).  And how about the same for ‘Radio Controlled Boat Modeller’, another publication published by your previous company. Perhaps Paul Freshney could mention it in the current issues of the Mag, someone might like to produce them privately!

I can’t see it happening anytime soon Alan, unless somebody offered to compile one for free.

We’ve spent our £9.75 budget this year.

Yes, the problem is that someone has to compile an index and since I am fully occupied with editing and there is no one else, it currently isn’t going to happen – but, since I became Editor, I have kept the computer version of the contents pages, which is relatively easy for me to scan through if someone has a query , but it only goes back to June 2007. I do have a list of free plan issues + kit reviews going back a couple of decades however, as do the office. So that if someone wants a back issue with a particular free plan article or kit review it is easy to determine in which issue it appeared. The queries I get, are usually related to kit reviews or free plans.

 Many thanks for your reply, and yes of course I understand that someone would have to do a lot of work to produce an index. I do have most (all but two) issues of Model Boats/Model Maker that start in the late 50s so I could do the job myself but I don’t have the time at the moment.

 If I might make a constructive comment, you say that you have the contents pages for the recent issues, could you at the end of each year from now on, put in a cut down list of these contents possibly in the December issue.

There would be no reason why, from my side of things, that all the contents pages from 2008 could not be in a folder on the website at the end of the year and readers could download them if they so wished, but that would be up to the ‘web’ department.

What happened? I stop buying the magazine for a couple of years as I thought I would stop building boats. Wrong!  I am (again) building a model, but the magazine archives disappeared. Am I imagine things and did the magazine never exixts? Unfortunately I did not keep any previous issues, as I was forced to clean house and move after a stroke. 

Now I want to build again, but I cant get hold of the plans of a ELCO PT boat in a previous magazine. I think it was a Glynn Guest plan.

Please help.

This months magazine (June 2008) has a free plan ‘Higgins Hellcat’ stand off scale 610mm long. This plan is similar to an ELCO PT boat and is by Glynn Guest. Glynn says he has learnt lessons from his previous designs, so this may be a good one to build.

I have ask my daughter to get hold of the June issue. She lives in the UK, and I in South Africa, where I have great difficulty finding the magazine locally. It used to be readily available, but since about January last year, it seemed to have disappear off the shelves. Now my next challenge will be to get hold of the bits and pieces.
