Now, now Ashley. I'm sure your D Day models are fitted with Aldi's lamps…. (probably only Lidl ones though)

I would imagine to most Tesco's is a lot easier to get to, The Warrington one listed is a Tesco Extra, Hope they give it a bit more display area than WH Smiths, Our Smiths last I looked had it on the bottom self at the back , that area was hidden by the next self up !!!.

However I feel it is much easier just to have Mr Postman deliver it F.O.C

                Ouch!

Hear, hear! £41 for a year's issues, delivered free, c/w nearly £60 for fetching them is a no-brainer. It's also a very convenient answer to the age-old question "What do you want for Christmas/your birthday?"

Yes, and as shopping habits change and sadly town centres are often not what they used to be, Tesco in its various forms has to be a useful outlet, if only because they get the footfall and of course are open long hours.

Dave Milbourn is quite correct about subscriptions, but all magazines of all types need newstrade sales if only to attract potential new readers and hopefully from that subscribers. MB actually does very, very well in subscription terms.

Larry – the problem with display is that very often the person 'putting out' the latest issue of whatever magazine has no interest in it, so tends to put them where there is a space, rather than rotating the magazines. To be in a defined regular front row place, costs yet more money – no surprise there! Sometimes we pay for such an option with WH Smith, but it is prohibitive over an extended period.

Will be intresting to see as the Tesco shelves seem better spaced, . What i always thought strange is that the Exlusive to WHS specials were treated the same way, you think that they would have a vested intrest to better display them at least..

Has WHS been the only distributor as I am sure a local shop used to have them in now and again.?

WHS has inevitably been the main retail outlet for for the vast majority of all magazines, but as times have changed and Tesco, et al, have stocked more and more lines of all types, clearly many people go to those shops more regularly rather than the high street . A recent trial with RCM&E was successful and the footfall in Tesco is so high, it means that there is a good chance of selling extra copies.

Local shops can order any magazine as they wish via a distributor, but I suspect they can't send them back if unsold for credit. Of course WHS also distributes newspapers and magazines into many of the independent shops as well.

Readers may not realise, that magazines (of all types) that are not sold in WHS are pulped. We only get paid for those actually sold though their EPoS (Electronic Point of Sale) system, which is why the bar code is checked and double checked before a magazine goes on sale!
