Have just completed putting this together over the last 9 months. First boat build in 40 years and first live steam ever! It has been fairly enjoyable but there have been plenty of wee swearies along the way – bit of a learning curve with the 'fancy' woodwork. Ran it up today for the first time – bonny!

                      Thanks guys smiley.

Ray I did ask Brian Marten about the possibility of fitting a steam whistle as there is no spare 'port' on the boiler but he reckoned it's not worth it as a whistle would just spray water then give a strangled 'toot' and lose a lot of steam pressure (it's only a 250ml boiler). I had a look at fitting an electronic whistle but the modules for the whistle and the electronic switch unit would be a really tight fit in the stern section if at all – think I'll just stick to the standard "GET OUT OF THE BEEP WAY"laugh

Can I just add my two'pennerth A lovely build looks good on the water a real credit to you.

With an open boat the inside has to be as good as the outside, and yours is.

                          Regards.

                          Eddie.

@Neil the steam plant was supplied ready-made by Brian Marten

                            **LINK**

It has a fill capacity of 250ml and it powers the Anton Quartz engine driving a 55mm 4blade 'steamer' prop for about 15 minutes.

@Eddie – thanks Eddie, it turned out very well – well worth the toil and tearssmiley and is an absolute joy to sail.

The is an article coming up soon in Model Boat Magazine regarding the fitting of whistles to boilers. The concerns voiced by Brian Marten are valid but they can also be overcome.

I always really fancied this model but unfortunately they withdrew it before I could make my mind up. It didn't seem to be available for very long, which was a shame. You have made a superb job of it and made me regret, yet again, never buying one!

Mamod engines have small whistles and they work ok on small boilers, probably because they are close to the boiler and stay warm. Then when the steam is turned on it does not condensate so quickly and water mark everything.

I have to agree its a lovely model and i would not want spray all over it.

                                        Brian
