The elf appointed charge hand obviously has ideas about the Zumwalt project that I know nothing about and seems to have access to funding larger than the National Elf Service

I am worried by the infinite number of motors that you are thinking about, the problems of which are elf explanatory.

What is the mysterious Plan B?

The motor drive could have a fan powered blower feature, similar to the Bluebird model, I posted a few weeks ago

Just to give it the unknown power plant sound……If it needs it, that is!

I've got four brushless motors waiting in the wings……Complete with Captain Bob's secret control system……Which defies logic and common sense!………But works quite well…….Wink wink, elbow elbow, nudge nudge ……know worra mean, Captain

Dear Santa

The handrails were used during the construction phase to stop workers falling off, when the ship set off for its sea trials all of the temporary safety equipment including handrails were removed.

When the ship is at sea the crew never go onto the forward deck and only the hanger team will go onto the rear deck, unlike older warships everything on this ship is done from inside so the crew don't have to go outside.

I don't want to dampen your enthusiasm but the model will only need two motors and there wont be any spare space inside the hull for Abell motors, blowers, warp drives or any other fancy propulsion system.

The ships power plant is known …see below

• 2 × Rolls-Royce MT30 gas turbines (35.4 MW ea.) driving Curtiss-Wright electric generators
• 2 × Rolls-Royce RR4500 turbine generators (3.8 MW ea.)
• 2 × propellers driven by electric motors
• Total: 78 MW

The only unusual thing about the ship is that the electric can either be used in propulsion or the weapon system (look up rail gun)

Firstly, before this becomes an extension of the Zummy project, yes merry seasons greetings and so forth, Trevor has suggested a tinsel sail Sunday after xmas, up for that.

Colin, daft as it may seem, you may just be wrong there… several ships in the Falklands had laser dazzle systems (allegedly) and the yanks are working on high power lasers. Apparently there is a system which combines 5 (or so) commercial welding lasers to give a hefty output..

Bob, I'm almost ashamed to admit it on this forum, but I'm in the middle of rebuilding my OO gauge model railway layout. I still sail regularly but have not built a new boat for several years, although I have done some upgrades on my existing models. Railways, full size and models, have been a passion of mine for most of my life, and since moving back to our farm, with its 40' x 20' shed, I have been totally rebuilding my layout. It was formerly housed in the garage of our flat when we lived at the beach, but the salt air was not a great environment, so I decided to virtually start from scratch. I have reached the point where the trackwork is complete and fully functional, but the scenic side is in the early stages. My Sydney based grandsons are visiting us for Christmas, and they are giving the layout a good work out. It operates well, so they are having a ball.

I made the Loco below in 1965……The driver was our Best Man and he emigrated soon after the picture was taken

He has just returned this week after 49 years!………..Complete with this photo

I built two more loco`s……..LBSC`s Britannia and Martin Evan`s Princess of Wales……Big wheeler

Very nice Bob. I'm afraid that type of model is well beyond my capabilities, or workshop equipment. My ex-pat English brother-in-law from Bundaberg, Queensland, is a model engineer, and builds working model locos, among other things. He has built 5" gauge models, but now tends to favour Gauge 1 live steam. Some of his work appears in the English Model Engineer magazine, including a serialised account of his build of a Saunderson and Mills tractor in the latter part of this year.
