Hi all

Can any one tell me were I can buy Mahogany sheet that is real thin ie 0.5 mm or thinner in the Surrey area please

Unless you are incredily lucky by having a well stocked craft shop in your area, I expect that you will be looking at mail order. Look for "mahogany veneer". Most of the Amazon listings appear to be pre-glued for ironing onto surfaces.

A combination of balsa, mahogany stain (for colour) and wet rot wood treatment (to increase surface strength) from a large DIY store might be the best answer. Finding somebody who stocks balsa (or obechi) sheet locally would be an achievement these days.

Mahogany sheet 0.5 mm thick is available by mail order from i.a. Cornwall Model Boats (**LINK**) and The Model Dockyard (**LINK**). Both are reputable vendors that have been around for years, and from whom I would not hesitate a second to make an order.

Hi Paul,

Try Mantua Models at Windsor, I have used their 1.00mm extensively , and not a million miles from Surrey, but they do have a website. T you use waterbased varnish it looks like Teak, with oil based varnish just like Mahogany
