Rather off topic, but Captainslog's mention of WH Smith in Minehead brings back memories of our last trip to the UK, back in 2008, when we stayed for a week in Minehead. I visited Smith's on several occasions while we were there. We did a trip on the West Somerset Railway to Bishops Lydeard and back. We also did day trips to such places as Selworthy, Porlock Weir, Taunton, Lynmouth, Exmoor and others. We stayed on the top floor of the Metropole Court, in a flat owned by my brother-in-law's cousin, directly above the Hobby Horse. It has a bay window giving an unobstructed view of Minehead Station.

they are still there peter, my mate has got a flat in the metropole,sadly the hobby horse pub has gone down hill last few years. do you remember the red lion pub a bit further down towards the lifeboat station? I used to have a room in there and there is a slipway down to the sea right outside the door. It goes down to a nice sand?(more like mud) bank and thats where i sail my boats when the tides, wind and sea state are good enough. not many lakes or ponds around by me so all boats are ocean going. you got to watch the weed though, so far i`ve had to swim out 3 times. wondering why i`m up early? to watch the lions beat the ozzies of course. and yes colin it does, trouble with me is i`m welsh and tend to speak exactly what i think and i like to be honest and up front. cheers all happy sailing

I do remember the Red Lion, Captainslog, we walked down to the life boat station a couple of times.

You would be disappointed with the result of the Lions v Wallabies game and, having watched it, our boys did enough to give me confidence that they can wrap up the series in Sydney.

Colin, honest debate is always good, as long as it doesn't deteriorate into a slanging match. So far this one has been very civilised.

Dave M as an Avon lady……..that would be an eye opener.

best i see my avonlady for an eyeliner pen, supposed to be waterproof (i was told that, no experience in its uses necessary) so can i use 1 for marking the waterline? avon lady should know, comments dave?

perhaps we could attach 1 to the front of the PREORDERED magazines. Then I wouldn`t have had an excuse to start this thread in the first place as the cost was compensated. BRILLIANT seriously we are all friends on here ( i like to think so) and everyone has different views. But what worries me at the moment is I havn`t seen "ashley" since I mispelt his name "assley" genuine typo and I did apologise
