        Hi Fellas

Recently, I needed the original large photo files of pictures posted on the forum, for magazine publication
Alas, these were wiped off, months ago!

Then I remembered an advert, that advertised a programme that could recover lost photographs…..Even having being disposed of, in the recycle bin!

        I don`t believe it, said Mr Meldrew!……..Neither do I……..Said I,with a wry smile!

Found such a prog on the net and it offered a free trial
It took about 10 minutes, going through a sort of search and to my complete and utter surprise………In recovered 53000 lost files!…….All sorts of stuff, including ……2800 photographs!………You doubting Thomas`s!

The hard part, was identifying which photographs I needed, as they had just a long series of numbers.
As it was only a free demo, a further part of the prog was required, and this was chargeable
I didn`t go any further and the prog erased on switching off

The point is, that nothing is ever lost on your PC!………and my question is…..Where is it all hiding inside the computer?

        Food for thought, eh?……Bob

depending on the size of your hard drive nothing actualy gets deleted when you delete a file it just looses its link, however over time it could get dis-jointed as you fill your Drive..

When you say you wiped them off, did you just delete them or did you then also clear the recycle bin ?.

          how about this site.

            Hello TLB

The files and fotos were well and truly binned and erased!……..And gone forever!

Your prog is very similar to the one I used………A minor miracle really?

It`s nice to know…..It may be important one day!

But you can bet that the file that you really wanted has been consigned to oblivion.

                Hello Colin

It may be advantageous to buy the prog now and get some practice in?
You could easily need a lifeboat like this, in your line of work?
Anyway…..It’s out there, should one need it!

                  Bob,

When I take any potentially important pics, I load them on to the PC as soon as possible. I don’t delete them from the camera until I need to and there have already been several backups of my PC. I also burn them to CD or DVD and store them in the garage just in case the PC catches fire. The portable hard disks on which I keep the backups are also kept in the garage.

If I need to make reduced size photos I always make them as copies and keep the originals.

If everything is lost then I’m probably not going to be in a position to worry too much!

                  Colin

I had the habit of erasing everything, in the vain belief that I was helping the free running of the PC

                    Now…..Nowt get erased!…..and we`ll see what happen?

It is correct that the arrow pointing to the lost files is removed. However, the files are still on the computer even after erasure. I’m led to believe also that even if files have more written over them, they can still be recovered. The police have tracking systems that can go over 7 files deep so they are technically never deleted.

This is why it’s never a good idea to throw away an old disk without smashing it with a hammer first.

                      Makes you think eh !!

They are quite hard to smash with a hammer too! I also drill a hole and pour something like old varnish in.

                            According to another website…
Lost files hiding seven layers deep can be recovered by the powers that be!

As long as they are not full of holes and dripping with varnish, of course!

It makes me wonder, what Colin has on his hard drive, to justify such extremes!…….lol

Now, now Bob! Not what you think!

But a lot of personal documents relating to finances, the house etc. etc. People can use this sort of stuff to steal your identity and empty your bank account.

                                I was only joking, Colin

This year I dumped an old PC at the local tip and was surprised to discover, that all discarded computers are sent abroad for dismantling and recycling!

That`s worth remembering!………There could be a few scallies out there, going through the hard drives, in search of buried treasure?

No wonder Colin makes sure the hard drive is unreadable!

                                So!…….. Dumper beware!
