I would really like to get hold of a Calder Craft Peggy steam drifter kit and was hoping someone on here may have an unused one willing to sell or know of a website or model shop with one still in stock. I think they went out of production about 8 years ago in the U.K. Maybe less long ago in USA.

I only just realised this model existed and it has great personal meaning to me as my great grandfather was the skipper of the original Peggy PHD149 in Peterhead and the family have only just realised the company took the boat to base a model on! Would it be worth contacting the company do you think as this may be an interesting story for them? I have original photos of the boat so intend to build it ad close as possible to the original. The ones I have seen so far have the wrong colour scheme on the decking but are close to the original design.

Any help or advice appreciated. I may consider a fully built model but really would prefer to have a go at building myself. This would be my first model boat build. I am based in aberdeen in Scotland.

      Thanks

          Chris,

I don't know if they are similar enough, but one option, if you don't find a Peggy kit, might perhaps be to convert the Mountfleet Models generic steam drifter Danny Boy?!

From a quick image google I get the impression that the hull shapes might have been a tad too different (from at least osme photos the Peggy seems like she might have had a shorter foredeck?), but perhaps worth looking into anyway?

My main reason for suggesting this, though, is that both Caldercraft and Mountfleet Models were originally Frank Hinchliffe enterprises, and I suspect (on the verge of knowing for sure) that he re-used his own earlier work a lot. As I believe Caldercraft was previous to Mountfleet for him, a lot of what had gone in to the Peggy kit might thus well have turned up again in Danny Boy … ?!

I would suggest also trying some other internet forums (fora?) such as RC Groups and Model Boat Mayhem. I'd also recommend that you find and study a few build logs of Mountfleet and Model Slipway kits, as these kits are similar in nature to Peggy. That said, I wouldn't take on one of these kits as a first build unless I had a lot of self-belief!
            Good luck in your search.

              Thanks for the replies.

I have tried Model Boat Mayhem with no luck yet but will try RC Groups as well thanks.

Ideally I would be looking to find this original kit. I would imagine it must be sitting somewhere unbuilt in someones house or a model shop shelf!

Is the company an American one I emailed them but got no reply? Are there any good forums in the USA to try or other sites such as gumtree that it might be worth looking at?

                Chris,

They are very much a British company, based in Droitwich in England. The company is JoTiKa, while Caldercraft is the brand under which they market their kits, see **LINK**.

Have you tried Don Spielberger at Loyalhanna Dockyard (in Bergen, NY)? He used to specialise in British kits like this. My only other US contact is Harbor Models of San Diego. The guy there was Dave Morrish but I'm sure he's retired by now.
                  BTW R/C Groups is a US-based forum.

                        Trevor,

I tought that I had trawled (no pun intended) through all of the JoTiKa website without finding any trace of the Peggy kit.

Could you, do you think, post a link to the page where you saw it? Not that it matters all that much to me, but I'm sure it woud help Chris, while for my part I will admit to a certain amount of curiosity …

I think you will finnd that the page Trevor is referring to is an old page cached on Google. It was last modified in 2006!

The Jotika website no longer lists Peggy.
