My good wife and I decided to take in a model boat show to learn what others do and how well they execute their skills. Make a few days of it the trip across country from Mablethorpe Lincs to Haydock Newton Willow a fair distance for 70 year olds .Not disappointed wioth the show which appeared well laid out and supported by local Boat Clubs. Good selection of dealers and for me some exciting buys.Haydock Park venue was well selected ,but a let down to us .

They let down the show Organisers and the paying public with their obvious lask of respect for their paying public. No I did not pay £35 entry nor was I leaving my well earned money to their favoured bookie.

Why the gripe then ,well we after 3 hours buying went looking for the resturant and at least a decent cup of tea to discover _ paper cups-Curry obvious from a tin at some time _ a carribian pasty or a chicken and mushroom pie. None of the above would be tolerated in the working class cafe I,ve entered over my many travels. I feel sorry for the people of Lancashire if that is an example of how the landed gentry treat them

Best of luck to the organisers for the future but we will not be back to Haydock Park angry 2

Sorry you feel let down by the food, I had a coffee in a paper cub, I also had a pie and actually found it pretty good, also found it hard to get a seat at times due to the amount of food being eaten from the Cafe but each to there own, there was another bar / restaurant by the entrance where I saw people having drinks in real mugs. and to be fair a lot of shows don't have food laid on at all.

Sorry that you feel that you will not be back to The Boat Convention all because of food.

Well Mike, to be honest, I don't think you would expect to find fine cusine at a model boat show or most other types of show really. (The steak & kidney pie at Warwick excepted!). Basically all you will get is fast food of the snack type variety which is simply intended to keep visitors refuelled.

'Canteen' type food tends to be the norm at events of this type and many people prefer to take their own packed lunches.

Sorry that you were disappointed though.

            Colin

Well thanks for the comments .I,ve been to the Wings and Wheels Show on numerous ocasions and for saying it was held on an Airfield outside Grantham ,the on offer was far better . I only found the Guiness Bar where the fare was on offer . My problem, too great an expectancy .Still an excellent show.frown

                  Hi Mike

I will pass on your comments, however as they serve this at most of the races at Haydock I assume they sell what goes well, Really am sorry it soured the show a bit for you but glad you considered the Convention excellant, and do hope you would come again at some stage..

Wings and wheels, an event I have not yet been to but hope to soon..

                  Larry.

Its surprising that there wasn't a barbecue as all they would need is buns, onions and ketchup.

Bob there is plenty of burger meat at Haydock.

Hi Neil . Sadly you miss the point ,Iam not putting Lancastrians and why would I as I was born in Preston . MY POINT IS THAT MODEL MAKER ARE NOT THE POOR RELATIONS , or cannot afford a decent meal . The venue was superb ,the whole day spoiled by something the organisers could not controll . Hope that makes it clearer for you.wink

As a canny lad from down south, you would not catch me buying food or drink at these days out. I take my own food and drink and spend my money on modeling items smiley.

                            Len.

Hi All Well her indoors and I felt maybe we were a little harsh with our critising the food so I contacted the organiser . Jean seemed to be a nice person and listened to my comments and accepted them as they were intended.

She explained that years fare was very good and expected the same again . On going for food Sunday was shocked at the poor fare on offer .When she inquired about the problem was told that the catering manager had changed and left to her own devices gave what we found

Next year this will be rectified and a brief comment will be made in their adverfiseing. The feeling I had was they appreciated the constructive critisism .Hope this will clear up my intentions.wink

I too was disapointed with the food and lack of tables to sit at , also an ice cream van would have been nice , apart from that ,the models were superb ,a well done to all clubs that displayed .

                                regards Brian
