        Hello Len,

Out of interest what was the connection between my Work Boat build and your pram ?? 🙂

          Hi Ray,

Sorry, I was just responding to the earlier posts on your topic about how people get a model boat to the water (garden trolleys etc).  It’s not relevant to your build.

My own topic now has lots of irrelevant posts.  I can’t alter anything and I think that’s where the site needs some better moderation to group similar comments together.  Including this post!

          Regards Len. 🙂

            Hi Len,

No worries, we all do it 🙂

We don’t have an official moderator , but Colin does it on a ad hock basis, thanks Colin

Unfortunately this forum is a shadow of it’s former self with many of the old hands not coming to the new format which is rubbish with no idea if anybody is even viewing our posts, and the format is so far behind on my android phone and tablet it’s rather a joke !!

            Still never mind 🙂

              Hi All,

Well back from another epic Wales weekend, small update on the launch, all set up with the chine rails of obeche for the inner and balsa for the outer, easier to plane and sand to shape, better press on with the skins, paper templates are the way to go for me 1/32″ topsides and 1/64″ ply for the bottom as I have plenty, although cheaper to use gold leaf these days 🙂

                Not to sure why I’m posting this ? I know it’s boring !! Habit I guess 🙂

Just been dinghy sailing for a couple of days so have come back to the workshop with renewed vigor 🙂

                      Hi George,

Unfortunately the pins had to be taken out and all the holes filled  🙂

Looking more boat like, the great thing about this is there is no cabin to bother with , running gear and rudder next which should be interesting !! Action man will have to be steering the boat, I think round corners on the transom makes her look more steel like ? , need to buy some bits now, how I miss the Chatham Dockyard Model Shop 🙁

Well all this wet weather is certainly good for the building programme 🙂

Just a few fittings to fabricate and ready for paint shop .

                            Hi Ray,

A great build as usual. Action man looks well suited to his job.

At the moment I’m trying to get the the wheel house sorted on the puffer. I think I’m going to go back to wonderland models for some figures ( as I did on the pilot boat ) and just modify them to suit.

                            Jim.

Very smart.  The figure sets it off perfectly.  Is he fixed to the boat?  Wouldn’t want him going for a swim in choppy waters.

Yes his boots are super glued to the deck 🙂 but I must make him a buoyancy aid just in case !!

I had a great day at the Midlands Show on Thursday, trouble is I now want to build another steam loco 🙂

                                      Hello Chris,

It was a fab show, I hadn’t been for 20 years, I think then most of it was in tent !! As I havn’t bashed the metal since the 90’s when I built a 5″ Sweet Pea,  I need to get back into engineering now I’m old enough 🙂

So I bought some laser cut frames for LBSC’s Tich which I have had a set of casting kicking around for 40 years !! my first Tich I built when I was at school aged 14 in 1970 how time flys !!

                                      Regards Ray

Pity I missed it then. Where do you run your locos, I’m assuming they’re quite a big gauge?

                                        Model looks really good.

3 1/2″ & 5″ gauge I have been a member of the Welling and District MES over the years but not currently, I have a 30′ length of test track in the garden sometimes steam up If I’m barbequeing 🙂

Not enough hours in the day !!

Are you getting back into the modelling ?

Never done a plan Ray, I guess it’s never been something that has interested me.  A few sketches of steam engine bits is about my limit.  The odd thing is that I quite like looking at plans and technical drawings and I really enjoyed doing building drawing at school as it was intended that my career path at the time would lead to being an architect.  Maybe that’s what put me off, I got bored and thrown out of school.  Motorbikes, girls and beer seemed to be far more interesting at the time.

Well, two out of three aren’t bad now!

I produced architectural drawings for over 50 years, mainly on the drawing board, which helped a lot when I turned to model boats.

You won’t be surprised to learn that my only 2 O Levels were Technical Drawing & Woodwork !!

My Dad taught me how to scale up small drawings (thanks Dad) reading drawings has been a gift for me, the way some folk can read music and play an instrument.

Left school at 16 and never looked back 🙂
