Have you ever done something that you instantly regret?

For example accidentally dropping your most trusted 2.4 transmitter onto a concrete floor and seeing bits and pieces pinwheel off.

You instantly know that the unit is beyond repair but there is always that little glimmer of hope…like the light at the end of the tunnel…telling you that everything might just be alright.

But as you pick up the shattered case you realise that the light at the end of this tunnel is in fact the express train hurtling toward you.

Yes I dropped my Spektrum DX7 on the kitchen floor and it is completely knackered.

Is it to late to ask Santa?

yep, I sold my beautiful little 1854 grade 1 listed coastguard cottage in Fleetwood when I got married……..to move closer to "her mum" in a dead end offshoot of poulton /blackpool……………and have hated living in a characterless street ever since……….30 years and counting…….biggest regret of my life.

            Regrets??

            1. Married an American.
            2. Joined the Civil Service.
            3. Bought a 1300 Allegro.
            4. Once owned a Spektrum Dx5e.

How much sympathy do you have to spare? Happily –

            1. Long since divorced
            2. Long since retired
            3. Took it back and got a full refund
            4. Sold, along with everything else that wasn't a Hitec.

Santa can often be very kind…just be careful with that back of yours when you put the letter up the chimney.

Accidents will happen. So will unpleasant events.

Best to be philosophical and consign them to the deepest recesses of your memory where they only occasionally resurface as nightmares. Life's too short to agonise.

However I do feel deeply for Neil in giving up a coastguard cottage. I would dearly love to live next to the sea although the Surrey/Sussex border just over the road from an area of outstanding natural beauty is still pretty good.

Just a thought, is it covered by your household insurance? Always worth a try.

buying a full length mirror…..It tells lies, I'm sure it does.

and I bought an 1100 cc allegro. 0 to 60 mph… only on a good day.

I understand that the larger-engined ones were far less trouble than the 1100 and 1300 ones. Mine had the classic BL hydraulic problems and ate master cylinders at a frightening rate. For two of the three months I owned it I was driving a Crysler 180. To refer to that as a courtesy car would have been laughable if it was replacing anything other than an All-agro. It was actually a pleasure to drive away an HC Viva when the whole affair was over!
Good suggestion ref your household insurance, BTW. A friend managed to drop his completed Imara down the stairs to his cellar. It was comprehensively trashed. Not only did the insurance cover the whole cost of every last thing in and on it but they also compensated him for his time in building it.
Has to be worth the question, innit?

                            Dave

The 1600 with the square steering wheel was extremely fast and very reliable (and you could squeeze a bored out 1800cc under the bonnet) Jane drove a 2 door 1100 and it never let her down.

The A series engines were a dream to work on and parts were readily, and cheaply available.

Alas the man from insurance company he say no. so I hope my letter to Santa gets through.

There was once a rumour that BL had actually designed a 4WD version of the Allegro with a view to producing it at their Land Rover Division.

I wonder what they might have called it? surprise

I had a Austin Allegro a 1300 In Sandglo and I can still remember the registration number for the wrong reasons YAD 355S. Where to begin. Fan belt went in the middle of Wales and I had to walk miles to the nearest village to find a phone and walk back, leaving Wife and baby in car. On a trip to Cornwall the radiator thermostat packed in had to hotwire the connection with a split pin so the fan remained constantly on. On the same trip the car wouldn't start so wife had to push start, and was told off by a passer by for letting a pregnant woman push a car. Gets worse, wiring loom caught fire the smoke was reminiscent of a scene from the Battle of Britain, cost to replace loom £80. The final straw a month after having an MOT was travelling down a hill approaching a roundabout when the ball joint sheared, the front wheel actually over took me and I slid to a halt on three wheels before the centre of the roundabout. The only good thing about the car was the body didn't have any rust. Put's problems with model boats in second place. Finally and I don't know how managed to sell the Allegro for £300.

I had a Ford Anglia 105E for about 17 years and it did me proud. No major failings other that having to replace the odd brake cylinder and ball joint before an MOT. Sold the number plate for £400 and the car for £100!

I loved it and would dearly like to have another, except now it would cost an arm and a leg to buy and run one. The spares might be a little harder to come by than just popping down to Double-D Dismantlers with Dad's socket set….
