Heres an interesting question/point of veiw .Both my brother and i build model boats ,me more than he , now he works in imperial and does like metric but me i guess i work in both !!!!! Closer smaller details i work in metric but other details like length, weight, height, distance i still use imperial . He would say 1″ and i would say 25mm . Then i would wind him up about being an old man,8 years between us , and then run like hell . Anyone else out there use both or just me being awkward !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i tend to use both, but convert in my head as i’m going along.
if i’m doing repetative measurements though, [ for instance]marking out planks to cut from a veneer, i always measure the sequence in metric……much easier for multiplication along a straight line.

I think in Imperial (educated in the 60s) but work in Metric – it’s all in easy multiples of ten, although millimetres does me for just about everything practical on a model.

Like many I was at school during the long transfer between imperial and metric so I ended up being able to easily jump between the two.
This became very useful when I worked in the building trade where moving between the two systems happens all the time.
Even now when I work on the CAD I still find myself thinking in imperial and doing quick mental conversions.

I`m with Neil here,I use both, imperial for longer lengths and metric for smaller.

I find it easier to use mm for small units (personal view)

I find it harder to read mm on a rule these days whereas I can manage 1/16″.

I’m another of the Imperialistic diehards, who only uses metric on finer details, though they’re getting harder to see nowadays. I could never get the hang of a metric micrometer, I always read them wrong, whereas an imperial version was so much easier to me. In the main though I despise metric.

I must say being a Metric taught person I prefer to work in milimetres and only convert to feet and inches for fillng in compettion forms

Remeber what happened to the space exploration modules that were sent to Mars. OOps soory One side worked on Imperial measurements and the other Metric, OOOOPs again. STANDARDISE GUYS it makes life sooooo much easier if you work in metric systems.
Oh Hell here’s another old plan in imperial Measurements!!!
                          LOL
