How to make a small vacuum box

I have just completed a download on how to make a miniature vacuum box for forming small boats, or other similar hollow items from stryrene sheet. The download is 20 pages in length with 5,658 words and 39 images in colour and B & W. It contains a historical article about the British full-rigged ship Denbigh Castle including deck and sail plans. And an article on making the miniature vacuum box. It took me 14 hours to research and write, so there is a nominal charge of £1.49 on it! After the link opens, scroll down a bit to read the synopsis. Here is a picture of the vacuum box. It can make two sizes of moulds, and the image shown below has the adapter iin it for smaller items.

Hi Bob,

I was interested in seeing your mini vacuum box. I did quite a detailed article for last years Model Boats Winter Special (2017) which dealt with how they all work and included detailed plans on how to make one, might also be worth a look for those interested. The new layout used by Graham Ashby, the new editor at that time made it a very nice and colourful article.

My box is probably too small for most, and maybe a bit amateurish, but it suits me! The download was just an afterthough in response to a number of requests on how to make one!

Hi Bob,

Wow! see what you mean……Mine was small but designed to go up to 5 inches square, made 9 clear visors for 1.12th Lifeboat figures in one pull and 4 inch lifeboats.

I love making home-made gadgets. Nice one.

Over the last week, 81 people have read the synopsis of the Denbigh Castle/Vacuum Box constructional article, with only one person downloading it! I have now deleted the download, and the files will now be incorporated in my next model shipbuilding book.
