      Hello everyone, I’m a new member here in the forum, and a beginner in the model boats world, so probably I’m gonna do a lot of dumb questions.

      So let’s start, currently I’m building my first boat which is the offshore tug “Alp Striker”. I didn’t used any scale, I was just looking to some pictures and doing the “job”.

      I made the hull model with foam and then I finished it with fibreglass.

      Boat dimensions:

      Length: 1.3 meters

      Width: 35 cm

      Hull Weight: 15kg +/-

      So I really need your help with the electric parts, I have already something in mind which is the following:

      • 2 high torque motors which I planned them to work independently;
      • 2 esc;
      • 2 batteries for this 2 motors and esc;
      • 1 servo for 2 rudders;
      • 1 bow thruster;
      • 1 esc for the bow thruster;
      • 1 battery for the bow thruster;
      • Radio with receiver (I was thinking the Spektrum dx6e, I really like it, just don’t know if it fits in this build);

      So what I really don’t know it’s the combination off products, could someone help me with that, which motor should i use, which esc, battery, etc.

      Every kind of help is welcome. Thanks.

          Hi Ruben

          Depending on prop size and number of blades MFA 950D series motors.

          Like 950D111 which are 1059 rpm on 12 volts(unloaded).

          All the rest of your ideas would work OK.

            Have a read through Colin Bishop’s article in the latest edition of Model Boats Magazine regarding propeller, motor and battery choices. I’m sure you will find it interesting.

              Ruben. Welcome to the forum.

              the equipment wants list looks ok but you have to decide what motors you are going to use firstly, and these need to be a match for your prop type and size and this also affects the choice of battery and esc. The esc simply needs to be a brushed or brushless one to suit the motor. Almost any modern radio set will be ok, but some offer stick mixing so you can use independent prop control. Geared motors make a bit more noise than ungeared but this is not necessarily a bad thing . A 35mm brushless low Kv motor will turn a substantial prop with no gearing, and there are brushed motors out there similarly.

              Personally I would use a Nimh battery as you are not worried too much about weight and you will not be making massive current demands of them.

              Have a read of Colin’s article first ! Ashley

                Hello everyone and thanks for the reply.

                I think i know already what im going to use which is the following:

                For the main propulsion:

                – 2 CEM 900 high torque;

                – 2 Mtroniks Marine 30 ESC;

                – 2 12v 12AH Lead Acid Battery;

                – 1 Hitec waterproof servo;

                For the bow thruster:

                – 1 Raboesch Bow thruster with 7.2v motor;

                – 1 Viper Marine 15 ESC;

                – 1 6v Lead Acid Battery;

                Whats your opinion about these products? Do you think they matched up?
