Hi I have been given a hull of a Thames A Rater, it’s my model first boat. Has anyone any info as the internet doesn’t seem to be helping. Thanks

It would help everyone if you could provide a photo and a better description of the hull. If its a model yacht about 5 feet long it could perhaps be a 10 Rater but I have never heard of a Thames A rater.

But a quick Google reveals Thames A raters exist – see here **LINK** (so its probably not a 10 Rater)

Another slightly slower Google came up with LINK this company might be able to supply you with all sorts of details / photos.

Hi I'm Greg and I'm a very new ship modeler , well let me put it this way. I've made several plastic models (static) and now I've moved up to a abs hull RC model ship and I need some advice and or instruction on how to wire accessories like a radar array , an anchor winch, a crane etc.I don't have a clue if I hook it up to the reciever or to a servo or what. If anyone out there can help I'd appreciate it.

Your question is a little light on specifics, but in general terms you would use a latching RC switch to operate a radar array (motor) and an electronic forward-and-reverse motor speed controller for a winch motor. Frankly I see little point in remotely operating a radar sweep arm because they are usually left turning at all times, so you might just connect them to a manual switch.

Cranes are a law unto themselves as they often require two or three channels, depending on the type and the degree of function you require i.e. traverse, elevate/lower jib and raise/lower hook. They may also use servos or plain geared motors and that choice dictates how the connections are made.

There are a couple of articles about RC switches here **LINK**

It seems that the links to the ACTion website aren't working yet so if you send me a private message I can send you copies of the articles.

Hi Greg, welcome to the forum. Rather than tacking onto an existing, unrelated thread, you will probably get better results using the "create a new thread" link. Its in blue, just under the "search" field.

But yes, to hook anything that requires control to a radio, it does need something extra to plug into the radio and convert the output from the radio into something usable.
