        Hello John

We would love to help and diagnose the problem but first we will need a little more information so could you describe the boat and what happened or what you were doing when it went wrong, please write in simple terms so that we duffers can understand.

        Paul

          Paul,

You made a very useful comment about the "f’only" lathe that I suggested might be worth members looking at. I now have a different question for you or anyone else out there.

I am in the process of making the yacht Britannia – I have posted pics, in a new album in the gallery – and am very near to painting it. I am hoping that someone might know what the original colour scheme was. I do not need the exact as I know that a little bit of license is allowed but I would like something as close as I can possibly get. So far I have primered it and varnished the top two planks. I am hoping – time allowing – to get started end of this week, realistically, next weekend.

           Ron.

            Hi Ron

This info is not in my library but if you look at http://www.modelshipmaster.com/products/ocean_liners/britannia.htm you will see an excellent model which might help you in your quest.

Hope this helps meanwhile I will keep on looking and asking some chums.

              Hi Ron

Not found out much today except a picture of the builders model

              http://www.modelboats.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/images/member_albums/1859/brit_1.jpg

But you probably already have this.

However I have sent an e mail to a friend who lives on Clydebank where his father used to work for John Brown Shipbuilders and asked him for some help. His father was working in the yard during the early 1950s so there is also a chance he actually worked on Britannia.

I will let you know how I get on.

Hi Paul I think you might have got the wrong Britannia as Ron said Yacht not Royal Yacht Britainnia, I think he may be on about the one with sails.

According to the great Sandy Cousins, the yacht with sails was gloss black hull and had a copper bottom

I`ve made his model and there`s a picture of it in my gallery

SC`s model was a masterpiece of fine detail and features!
