hi i brought these plans a few weeks ago and so far there as not been a problem the hull build went fine and looks the part.I purchased aluminium tube for the mast an brass tube to secure to hull as per plans, the instructions for material to make the sails did not seem to be to my suiting so I inprovised and used shower curtain thats the fabric ones not plastic ,cut to size and with pockets/hems sewn to take the mast and boom. All looks good my problem is how are the sails operated i fitted them in line with the hull but can not seem to see how they move, the screw eye with cord through attached to the boom at one end and the other end attached to servo leaves the sail flapping in the wind, when the servo is operated it pulls the sail off center of the hull is this the way it should work,or am i missing something important. i realize the plans were from mag and not everything can be explained in great detail due to space available, therfore if anyone out there can help i would be very greatfull

          Hello Paul

Setting up a sail is fairly straightforward but is dependant upon how much sailing experience the operator has, please don't be offended but have you ever used a r/c sailing boat before?

no this is my frst build.I have a fairly good ability at carpentry and own a scroll saw and just thought it would be a good idea to put to use and build a boat, sailing it and how they are set up is zero ability and any help i can get would be usefull.

              Hi Paul,

I have just had a look at the reference to the plan on the My Hobby Store website and saw that it is by Glynn Guest. The chances are that this model was the subject of an article in Model Boats magazine some time in the past. Colin Bishop, the website moderator will probably be along shortly and should be able to identify which issue the plan was included in. If it is available as a back issue you should be able to get hold of a copy which will probably be a big help.

                Hi Paul

I have had the chance to look at the design and as is usual for Glynn it is well designed and fairly simple to build and sail

Assuming that the rudder and sail servos are working correctly then there is no reason, apart from experience, why the boat shouldn't sail very well.

There are two ways to gain sailing experience, the first is to pop along to a local club and talk to the members who have sail boats.

The second is to research what you can and then simple trial and error and learn by experience (yes it will capsize and crash into the bank but you will learn)

                Paul

thank you gareth and paul t for the previous post.as i said am complete newbie this is a single sail yacht i sent for plans off internet as you say it was by glynn guest,it is very basic I thought may be it was a good place to start, but on saying that there does not seem to be much info out there.iv'e watched videos and and most setting up seems to be for twin sail boats were the rigging and twisting of the sails seem important, this boat does not even have the boom attached to the mast i am not knocking glynn i am sure it was made for a newbie like me and i learnt a lot making the hull i just wish the sail arrangement would of been better.once again thank you gareth and paul.

                    Paul

Looking closely at the sail you can see stiffeners in the back edge and the outline of a (possible) boom.

The addition of these items to the rig will certainly make the boat more controllable.

                      Hi Paul again,

I couldn't remember this one initially but have found a list of free plans which confirms that Gremlin was featured in the December 2002 issue. Back issues of that date are no longer available but you can get one from the Magazine Exchange here.

                        Hope this helps.

                        Colin
