Great eastern information

Hello all,

I'm new to this site so bear with me.

I have been obsessed with the steamship Great Eastern since high school (back in the early Tertiary) and have finally gotten around to building a model of her at a scale of

1/8 inch to the foot (!) after years of research, mainly photographic, but there are still lots of things I don't have information for, including basic things like the spar dimensions (I have the basics). I understand that there are some serious G.E. enthusiasts in your outfit who'd I'd love to correspond with. If so, please contact me here. Thank you.

Nice to know that you are a GE follower too………….Welcome to the Forum

There are a few Great Eastern threads on the forum, if you know where to look!

I would suppose the Marcle card build is probably the best source of accurate information

I will dig it out and bring it to the fore for easy reference

My build was stand off scale and built from photographs and sketches, so is not really suitable for a true scale builder

Hi James,

I have built a the Great Eastern from Marcle Models 1-200 scale card kit, but I used the kit as temlpates for a ply and balsa wooden radio controlled working version.

Bob put up a post of it running on my local pond down in South Australia.

its not the first model here in Australia as the Power House Museum, Sydney, NSW . has a model,

I have not seen it as I believe its in storage.

My interest is the fact that my great great grandfather William Harrison was the first Captain Commander from 1856 to 1860.
