                Hi
Here is a short summary about my Glasgow project.
The steamer is going to be powered by a horizontal oscilating steam engine of the German manufacturer Regner The plant is pretty similar to the former Cheddar Plover Paddle, which I originaly wanted to install. But, as you probably know, Cheddar is gone..
The quality of the Glasgow-kit is very good and if you go with the instruction you wont have to expect big problems. If you are going to power the boat by a steam engine, you should cut additional openings into the bulkheads (to make sure that there will be enough oxygen for the burner).

                    Hello,

I am about to embark on building the “Glasgow” and am planning to power it with steam. As I also want to have differential paddle control to aid in steering, this poses some problems.  The approach I plan to take is to drive the paddles through a model car differential and install brakes on each one.  This will effectively give me “tank” steering which can then be coupled with the rudder.  I have a Kyosho Blizzard (this is a model of a tracked snow groomer with a glow plug engine) which uses this system and it works very well.

Has anyone tried such an arrangement in a side  wheeler or have any comments on my idea?

                    Thanks.

                    Tony

                      hello – Tony Couch
Interested to hear what you say about the Kyosho blizzard being driven via a differential,is it available in kit form.
I have just built the Glasgow but with electric motor drive.
