This question is for our Vinnie,

Regarding photos sent to our albums – I sent some photos (19) of my "Le Caux" and "Loyal Matchmaker" for insertion into my albums, but still no sign of them after two weeks.  I’ve had no notification that anything was wrong with them and my profile says I’ve sent them – Have they just got lost in space,  forgotten,  or do I need to re-send them.  I appreciate they need to be checked, but no new albums have appeared in the last two weeks and only a few new photies in the forum.

      Cheers – Ken

        Hi Ken,

Sorry, but you don’t ‘send’ pictures to me for insertion.  You do that yourself.  I do remember receiving some pictures via email, but after looking at them appreciatively, I deleted them.   They’re not ‘checked’, you put them in, they go ‘live’ automatically.  You take photos, you create the albums, you put pictures in them.

          Hi Vinnie

I’ve had the same problem as Ken I have sent photos for addition to my sea commander restoration album 10 days ago. I used the link on the gallery page and followed the upload instructions but as yet they have not gone "live". I presumed you had a server problem.

Did you sort your hand rails out?

          All the best

When a user uploads an image it should be set to go live without being checked by me. I’ve checked, and the tech guys told me it’s set to allow images to go live straight away. However, I now KNOW that they’re wrong. Which means hopefully, they’ll have to look at it again and this time make sure instead of just believing what a ticked box says.

              Nice one Vinnie,

Never trust a tech guy they find it hard to see the ground from so far up in their ivory tower.

Just logged back on after a few hours decorating ! and the albums have been sorted with some new ones – and hey! – there now there, don’t know who’s strings you pulled, cheers Vinnie.

I did, by the way, load them via the upload pages and followed all the instructions.

                  More power to Vinnie.

Just checked and the photos have gone live, you must have shouted to get the tech guys out of bed on a Saturday lunch time, that is really impressive.

Whilst you are on a roll can you send me the winning numbers for todays lotto?

                  Thanks for sorting it out.

                  All the very best

Nothing sorted yet Ken and Paul!  The techies aren’t around until Monday….I’ve managed to ‘approve’ all the pics…even though they told me I didn’t have to.

Paul, the stanchions were for that huge diorama I’m making over on MilitaryModelling.com for Simon Farrugia of Great North Roads.  I managed to find some three ball stanchions on Ebay which aren’t the same, but like they’ll do….I have to wait until next week and the paycheck before I get them though……….then I’ll get the magnifying lens out and see if I can find my paycheque.

I don’t Paul – have not had a sail all year ! – made a BIG mistake last year and sold my "Le Caux" on ebay to finance my current build (Pacific Buccaneer) and when the chap that bought her picked her up he spotted the Loyal – and for weeks after pestered me (in a nice way – he was a great guy) to sell him the Loyal – I eventually gave in.  On the other hand it ment I could put more time into Pacific (over 900 hours to date) But building on this project has slowed down for now as I’m busy decorating a number of rooms in our house at the moment.

May start another album and put some piccy’s of Pacific as she is so far.

                          Cheers – Ken

                            Hi Ken

New Brighton is my favourite place because of the raised sides and the perch chippy just down the road is the best in the nothwest, but its a bit far to drive. Have you tried Runcorn boating lake? if I avoid the club days I usually have the water to myself.

Hope you enjoy the golden, I’m not allowed it anymore which is a bugger!!

                              Hi Paul

I actually live in Runcorn,  been down to their lake a few times to watch the sailing, but never sailed there myself.  The lake is quite good, except there is a lot of weed and twigs from the trees under the surface.  have seen few shattered props there and don’t think my matchstick kortz knozzles would stand up very well – so I travel the 30 miles up to New Brighton.

Have now started a new album for my "Pacific Light", an offshore oil rig support vessel, based around "Pacific Buccaneer" (a play on words here, seeing its made from matches!) this album will end up as a diary of the build – she measures 48" x 11.5" estimate 60,ooo matches – First 10 piccys sent up today.

                              Ken

Looking forward to seeing the pic’s (will Vinnie have to press his magic button again?) I agree about the debris at Runcorn but to be fair to the club they do clean the pool out very regularly and the local authority are very good at keeping it topped up in summer.

The only problem I have at New Brighton is the cross wind that comes off the sea it can make the water a bit choppy.

It would be nice to see you there vinnie but I can’t help wonder what kind of model you would sail, Tank landing craft perhaps???

                                      Hi Vinnie

I’ve been modeling for years and I have absolutely no idea what all the fuss is about,  I see some guys get so worked up over a shade of paint colour or counting rivets it a bit to retentive for me, I just like to build and peacefully float my boats.

But following someone for a days playing sounds like a good idea perhaps you could do a christmas competition where the lucky winner gets to spend the day with you, I am sure a lot of members would enter.

                                       A star for a day!

Have a nice weekend my friend.

                                          Hi Vinnie

Sorry to pull your chain, You might have guessed that I don’t take things to seriously

But I do think that following an ordinary model boater for a day is a great idea, it would help show newcomers that model boating is not a closed shop and that it can be fun for everyone no matter what skill level they are.

Your site is opening doors to people who have always wanted to sail models but have never had the chance or time and now they can see just what is involved without "getting their feet wet" or making fools of themselves at a club.

Sorry got serious then it must be time for my medication!!!!!

                                            Hi Paul

What ? – you mean you don’t put the correct number of rivets on your boats – tut-tut !

Well following me around for day is out – no working boat as yet, but if Vinnie wants a day out, (within 30-40 radius of Runcorn) I’ll turn up with Pacific Light, but it would have to be at a weekend (I still have to work).  It’ll be nice to put a face to the caricatures that everyone uses on the forum, don’t you think so Paul – that is a caricature of you isn’t it Vinnie ?

So if anyone has the time to spare chuck a date up when ever want.

Cheers Ken – back to the decorating for a few more hours

                                              Hi Ken

Perhaps I miss-worded what I wanted to say,

Newcomers can feel intimidated by close knit places like a model boat club and can feel left out when they don’t quite understand what is going on its the lack of understanding that prevents them from making contact, this is what I meant by feeling foolish.

But you are right in what you say once you get past the trepidation a club is a great place to pick up all sorts of advice. Its just the fear of the unknown which is something that this site is helping to overcome.

So much for todays sermon, tomorrow I shall part the waters on the Bridgewater Canal.

                                              p.s. What are rivets?

They are the little metal bits that hold a boat together – don’t tell me your still using that old fashioned stuff – whats it called now – oh yes, glue – don’ you have to wait for that stuff to dry – how boring !

I find Runcorn the most peaceful and relaxing place to sail, I like to go first thing in a morning when the water is always empty and calm, even when its raining I still enjoy the experience.

The club members are always helpful and polite and never bother you if you wish to be left alone.

I wish that Lymm had such a fine and well maintained facility.
