      Hi all,

      Coming from reddit…

I Used to build models a while back then you know… life. I wanna go back to it. I don't know how the different brands changed over the last few years in terms of quality/details.

I am looking for a plastic hull or not too complicated wood hull boat to start with. Doesn't have to be an RC ready but one I could transform in order to avoid seeing a similar one around. I am more into private vessels or civilian boats (tug, expedition boats, small yacht or liners, S&R at some point).

I have an end goal at some point to create my own from scratch (3D printing or woodwork) or potentially modifying an existing kit deeply.

Checked youtube, forums and google in general, I saw interesting stuff but not sure if any are still building built or if qualities are good (Krick, Deans Marine, Revell, etc.).

      Thanks for your help!

You could opt for a classic cruiser that is easy to build and a joy to sail LINK

              Hi Paul and Dave,

Thanks a lot for the prompt replies.

I never worked on wood hull (but I did work on wood for some summer house projects), is it complicated? Otherwise I really like that type of boats, both private and beautiful private vessel or on the other end of the scale big tug boats or the likes.

A few questions. Should I go with the engines/properler/shaft/batteries often recommended on these sights or should I use my own set up (better gear/propeler/battery/power/weight ration engine, etc.)? Moreover, these big boats require 4 channel controler correct? Never worked with these, I was doing normal modeling or RC Cars (Tamiya). Hard they hard to set up (in IT here though so not afraid).

By the way sorry for the typos, not a native speaker here.

                Hello Matthieu

As a general rule it is always best to follow the designers specification (even that chap that designed the Huntsman)

If you want to ease yourself back into the hobby, you could do a lot worse than to look at the Model Slipway offerings as Dave suggests. They go together easilty and perform well.

Thanks a lot! Will definitively look into classic cruisers as they are beautiful and for learning 4 channel control one of the boats from Dave's link.

                    Summer gonna be busy!
