Whilst at the club yesterday I spotted a fibreglass hull on the bench that was foc to anyone that wanted to build a boat with it. So I couldn’t resist and now it is at home with me firstly wondering why did I do it and secondly thinking now how or what do I do with it……. I am ok sawing/ cutting a bit of balsa and fibreglassing a deck in place, I have skills with Diy tools etc, BUT, what motor/prop shaft/prop/ electrics should I put on it and anything I need to watch out for, heat? Where in the boat should the motor fit? Middle towards the back? Aft?

I have built several electric planes up to 6s so some knowledge of motors lipos esc etc.but what sizes do I need for a 90 cm fibreglass hull? I am not looking to break the land speed record just don’t want to be embarrassed by a boat that looks like a speed boat moving like a canal barge, so something in between would be good.

i was thinking I could just pull a motor esc combo out of one of my planes and just put it in the boat, with a prop and propshaft combo from prestwich models, would that work?

I will go and talk to the guys but find I get good advice here so I thought I would try you guys first.

                Hi Richard

Can't make out many details from the single photo, it would help to see views from all sides.

                    Hi Richard

It looks like a very fast hull and could be made into a screaming demon.

Maybe by someone that’s know what they are doing….. and I am fast discovering it won’t be cheap to do either!

It might go fast but with what motor, I was thinking hobby king aquastar 3974 2200kv with a 150A esc a and starting with3s and the increasing to 6s? Depending on what happens.

I really don’t know what I am doing on electric boats motors rudders propshafts etc. So if it is really fast it will be more by luck than skill. The rudder and propshaft is one off eBay 392116782851 flexishaft and rudder don’t know if all that will do it?

I think I need to do more research? How long a propshaft how long should it stick out of the back? What prop ?where to mount the motor…

I am happy to take cheaper alternative suggestions just to get the boat going

I do ok with yachts now but fast electric is completely new to me.

A month on I put an aqua star motor 2200 Kv 2 – 4 S battery not yet decided on battery and build still in progress.

I need help on finishing the deck need to go on the build section for that? It’s currently very thin basswood, the help I need is how to finish it? Do I just prime and paint or will it be better to mix some fibreglass resin and paint it withe the resin or use fibreglass matting and resin?
